On Sunday, the EU will launch its much-delayed entry/exit system (EES)
❓ WHAT IS EES? ❓
* A new EU border system that digitally records travel in/out of the Schengen Area
* It will replace passport stamps
* Travellers will need to register fingerprints & a photo on first entry to the Schengen Area
* On later trips (within 3 years) only a fingerprint or a photo may be required
❓WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW? ❓
* There is no cost, no online form & no advance action required
* You should allow extra time at ports/airports in the first months as queues are likely
* Not all EU airports will be operating the system from Sunday and, even where it is in operation, not all passengers will be registered initially
* There will be a six-month rollout, with countries only required to operate EES at one border point on day one
