Murphy Associates is an independent town planning, conservation and urban design consultancy working throughout England and Northern Ireland. We have bases in Hove, East Sussex and Newry, Northern Ireland. Our projects range from small extensions, new builds, changes of use and mixed use development commercial and major residential developments, listed buildings, rural development including far

m dwellings, and barn conversions to urban design strategies for major developments. We also work on cases involving permitted development, lawful development certificates, prior notification, enforcement notices, as well as representing clients at appeal including acting as an expert witness. We are able to offer clients a holistic planning service including from the off - site evaluation and promotion, developing ideas, concepts and designs, preparing drawings, visualisations and the necessary supporting statements. On heritage matters, our experience and expertise in heritage planning, significance and setting, architectural history, assessment of standing buildings and areas, and day-to-day handling of projects relating to designated and non-designated heritage assets places us in a positive position of being offering joined up advice and services to clients. Once the nature of a client's case is determined, we will provide pragmatic and principled advice to best realise aspirations and to move a project forward. We also take cases through the appeal process where necessary including on enforcement matters. Our Director has nearing 27 years experience in with private and public sectors, is a Chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute and Institute of Historic Buildings and Conservation. The benefits of working in a 'hub' - being able to avail of different spaces in different locations, variety, meeting people and making contacts leading to some new work ... endless coffee! The downside - only when I need to refer to lots of books and documents and having to carry them back and forth!

Finally I signed up to the MacMillan South Downs Mighty Hike. Half marathon walk as part of the Women's Touch Group from Hove Rugby Club. So 7th June .. it probably will rain knowing my luck but all for a good cause! Alfriston to Eastbourne. Help me and the team raise our spirits and make it worth the effort (last time I did a sponsored walk was at grammar school)

As we had the pleasure of working with Colm Mckee MRTPI and Walker Bushe Architects on No.124 Brighton for . Four Regency buildings amalgamated to create a boutique hotel with spa with restaurant and terrace. Great attention to heritage features from start to finish - windows, doors, shutters, floors, historic fabric with sympathetic change, alteration and extension. Not the first hotel, Georgian, Regency seafront building we have worked on as part of a team to achieve change and revive! This one is not too far along the road for the cheeky visit.

What’s new? 3 conjoined heritage related appeals dismissed for LPA client; NDHA appeal dismissed for LPA client; 1 residential appeal allowed for private client; permission granted to remodel home - great design - private client .. 2025 is getting busy!
