The first ringed plover brood to hatch on Blakeney Point. The wire mesh you can see is a protective cage we put around the nests to keep the chicks safe from gulls, while the nest remains accessible to the ringed plovers.
⚠️ Picture taken by one of our experienced rangers. Ringed plovers and other ground nesting birds are vulnerable to human disturbance, so we ask that visitors keep well away from marked nests and areas that have been fenced off.
🐕 Dog restrictions are currently in place on Blakeney Point, with the beginning of the dog restriction zone marked with signs along the width of the beach. If walking your dog at Cley or Salthouse, please be aware of nesting birds here too. Please keep your dog under close control and walk as near to the sea as possible, or you may wish to follow the Norfolk Coast Path as an alternative.
Thank you for helping to keep the ringed plover chicks – along with the broods of oystercatchers, terns, redshanks and avocets – safe at this important time of the year. 🙏
