'The Mirror Wall' at Sigiriya is a fascinating feature of the ancient rock fortress. The wall earned its name because it was once so highly polished that the king could supposedly see his reflection in it.

Built in the 5th century under King Kashyapa I, the wall originally had a glossy plaster finish made with lime, egg whites, and honey-like binding materials. Even today, parts of it remain surprisingly smooth after more than 1,500 years.
