Just back from 3 days in the amazing region of Extremadura. Spanish Imperial,Bonellis,Snake and Booted eagles,Great Bustards,Pin tailed Sandgrouse and lots more. Stunning.

I know of a secret (well almost) oasis in the Alhamilla hills where water runs all year round. This morning I watched a male Trumpeter Finch drinking and singing alongside Crag Martins and Rock Buntings. A Melodious Warbler sang from the trees and a superb Bonellis Eagle flew overhead. Black Wheatear and Blue Rockthrush called from the surrounding hills. Top birding.

The springtime visit to the Sierra de Maria didnt disappoint.. Orphean,sub alpine and bonellis warblers. Snake eagle and booted eagle. Hawfinch,chough, cirl bunting and many more great birds.

Back from a fantastic week birding in Cyprus. Highly recommend it. A morning out at Punta Entinas and nice to see the first Collared Pratincoles,Reed Warblers,Gull billed Terns and Whiskered Terns of the year. Also Curlew Sandpiper in beautiful breeding plumage.

Sadly the Albufera de Adra is not normally open to the public. I was lucky to be allowed access today (Friday) and enjoyed stunning views of a reeling Savis warbler plus Wood sand,Little Ringed Plover,Little Stint and loads of White headed Ducks. Then into Almeria to record with my spanish band,Los Iris.

The Sierra de Baza around Charches is just over the border in Granada province but its a place I visit regularly. Yesterday morning I had around 20 Black Bellied Sandgrouse,4 Great Spotted Cuckoos,2 Stone Curlew plus loads of Chough and Calandra Larks. Also a migrating Hen Harrier.

My second visit to Fuente de Piedra in Malaga province. Great weather,300+ Common Crane,Booted Eagle,Bluethroat,waders and warblers. Stunning scenery too. It's a place you must visit if you get the chance.

A day at Fernan Perez with cloudless skies,18C,sandgrouse,stone curlew,little owl and more. Now for a couple of beers at 1 euro a bottle. What more does anyone need?

A lovely morning at Punta Entinas Sabinar with waders,pipits and raptors but the highlight was stunning views of short eared owl,only my second in Almeria.

The first outing of 2019 was to Rambla Morales and got off to a great start with a flock of ten Trumpeter Finch. This was quickly followed by two Great Northern Diver offshore,a spanish first for me. Add in larks,ducks egrets and the year is looking promising.
