Wow Santorini by day at its best - not too big to explore, only (N–S): 16–18 km, (W–E): up to 6 km at its widest point😆 - but so much going on, today we visit Oia and Fira, plus the 10km Caldera-Edge Walk (6 miles) or 3–5 hours with spectacular sea and volcano views. Their adventure began in Osaka in the vibrant Nanba district, filled with neon lit streets, food stalls and casual dining. Then travelled in true Japanese style aboard the world famous Shinkansen (the bullet train to you and I) 90km to Himeji in around 40 mins. Passing the iconic Akashi Kaikyo Bridge one of the longest suspension bridges in the world. Experienced authentic Japanese culture in Kanazawa a city famed for its tea districts and historic geisha traditions. Tasting at Fukumitsuya, the city’s oldest sake brewery. A traditional Japanese tea house for an intro to geisha culture and to learn rituals, stories and artistry. From Kanazawa to Kawaguchiko, the most accessible of the iconic Fuji Five Lakes, for scenery, culture and relaxation, and some of the best views of Mount Fuji. Next Tokyo to explore the city’s yokochos narrow alleyways filled with tiny bars, eateries and local character, Odaiba, Tokyo’s largest man made island, with one of the greatest sights the illuminated Rainbow Bridge, a landmark that links Odaiba to the rest of the city and creates a stunning backdrop by night.
If you don’t mind heights, Tokyo Skytree standing 634 metres, it’s the tallest tower in the world and offers breathtaking views across Tokyo. Their journey continued to Kyoto, to the historic Ninen zaka district, where they enjoyed a traditional Tea Ceremony, kneeling on tatami mats and learning the meditative movements rooted in the four guiding principles of harmony, respect, purity and tranquillity. One of their final destinations Nara, just 40 minutes from Kyoto by train and renowned for its rich Buddhist and Shinto heritage. For garden lovers, Isuien Garden is a real highlight here.
