On Monday walking our bottom field in the sunshine with our Viszla I saw a pair of Ravens flying overhead quickly followed by five light coloured buzzards flying down the valley. A little egret this morning and an osprey complete with trout from the fish farm a little while back. Our camera trap caught an otter in the stream last winter. The wildlife here never ceases to surprise me.
Just finished making hay by hand on a quarter acre of wildflower meadow which has been a butterfly paradise this summer as have the wildflowers in our old limestone meadows.

The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials
Thursday 30th August - Sunday 2nd September 2018

One of the country’s most premium events in the social and sporting calendar. Spectators will flock from around the globe to witness world class equestrian competition from over 80 elite horse and rider combinations.

Land Rover Burghley is not only renowned for its adrenaline pumping sport, but showcases one of Britain’s finest outdoor pop up shopping villages. Aside from the countryside musts such as wellington boots and wax jackets, an array of home furnishings, handcrafted jewelry and unique clothing can be found within the sprawling parkland.

The idyllic rolling hills of the Burghley estate make for the perfect setting for a picnic with family or friends. Adventurers can turn their hand to the off-roading experience Title Sponsor Land Rover has on offer. For those looking for a more relaxing experience, visitors can soak up the last of the British summer in Pol Roger’s exclusive Champagne Lodge before meandering through the culinary stalls to sample locally made produce.

Across the four days, horses and riders will be tested in the extreme to demonstrate their prowess in the dressage arena on Thursday and Friday, stamina and bravery in Saturday’s cross country and finally their speed and agility in the showjumping on Sunday.

Land Rover Burghley offers an experience to suit every budget, from exclusive Members’ access to daily tickets that can be purchased on the day. Advanced bookings will benefit from discounted rates, and tickets purchased for the Thursday, Friday and Sunday are interchangeable.

The 186th Rutland County Show was held on Sunday 3rd June.

Rutland is the smallest county in the UK nestling between Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire, only a few miles the A1.

The Rutland County Show is one of the oldest shows in the country. In 2014, we relocated to a new 150 acre showground on the edge of Oakham and have been expanding the show ever since, showcasing Rutland’s food and farming heritage and community groups.

The show has a very traditional feel with livestock classes, horse and pony showing, British Showjumping and main ring entertainment as well as a host of other classic show attractions.

Fabulous local food and drink, great shopping and entertainment coupled with free entry for children and free parking ensures visitors a fantastic day out.

Located on the outskirts of the charming market town of Oakham, The Rutland Showground has flexible spaces for a wide range of outdoor and indoor events.
