Wee interview with Morag by the Argyll and the Isles Tourism Cooperative. Favourite places Including the island of Lismore for a day off! Isle of Lismore Cafe Isle of Lismore Community Website - www.isleoflismore.com.
Meet our member, Morag, from Provident Sailing! 👋
We asked Morag a few quick questions to get her insider perspective on Argyll & Isles. Here’s what she had to say…
1️⃣ What hidden gem in Argyll do you love to share with your guests?
Loch na Droma Buidhe is a small loch sheltered between the Morven peninsula and the small island of Oransay in Loch Sunart. In the evening, it’s one of the best anchorages for glorious sunsets with uninterrupted views past Ardnamurchan point.
I often get the boat to drop us off at Drimmin on the Morven peninsula at the North end of the Sound of Mull. We can then walk over the hill and come down to the loch, where Provi will be waiting for us below. Sitting, watching the sunset in a calm anchorage in a remote place with a gin and tonic in hand is very hard to beat!
2️⃣ On a typical day off, what do you like to do/explore in Argyll & the Isles?
Lismore is my favourite place to go. It’s a 40-minute ferry ride from Oban or a 10-minute ferry from Port Appin. The island has lovely walks and is so sheltered it seems to have its own microclimate.
There are stunning views everywhere from Morven on the North and Loch Linnhe on the South. On a good day, you can see the Glencoe hills and Ben Nevis peering over Fort William. Tirefour Broch is on a little knoll about an hour's walk from Achnacroish, where the Oban ferry comes in.
The café (great for soup and cakes) and the museum are open between April - October. Both are in the middle of the island, so they are easy to reach from either end. I especially love Salen, a small natural harbour with an old pier and disused lime Kilns. There are some freshwater lochs, too, that you can swim in!
3️⃣ What have you benefited from most being a member of AITC?
I’ve been impressed by the organisational skills of the team behind AITC, and they have been very easy to engage with—the more you engage, the more you get out of being a member. Being part of a group focused on attracting visitors to our remarkable area has been beneficial.
As we sail about Argyll, one of our missions is to give our guests lots of opportunities to experience everything that Argyll has to offer, from beautiful scenery to fabulous food, welcoming communities, and wonderful adventures. We have had quite a lot of help with publicity. We responded to a journalist's request, and in January, we were featured in the Times Adventure supplement!
We also helped with AITC's sustainable sailing and mental health benefits of the sea campaign. We welcomed a photojournalist on board and, with Emma from Wild Hebridean Swimming, sailed to Eilean Na Cloiche, for the perfect picture. For a small business like us, feeling supported and encouraged by others is always helpful.
We love showcasing our members! Keep an eye on our socials for more familiar faces, and join our growing community of Argyll & Isles businesses. Find out about becoming a member here 👉 https://bit.ly/AITC-Become-A-Member
