🌊 The world is sailing back into Oban… and you’re invited! ⛵

From 10–19 July 2026, Oban comes alive as the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race returns — one of the toughest endurance challenges on the planet, with crews racing over 40,000 nautical miles across the globe.

And when the fleet arrives, the celebrations begin… 🎉

⚓ Festival of the Sea Highlights:

10-19: Oban Gaelic Choir performances
12 July: Keelboat racing
15–17 July: Public yacht tours at North Pier
16 July: Skerryvore live in Oban
11 & 12 and 18: Food & Craft markets

…and a full programme of events across the town to soak up the atmosphere!

This is more than a stopover — it’s a town-wide celebration of sailing, culture and community, with events, experiences and a buzzing waterfront all week long.

Before regular ferries, road trips, and trains, Oban was already welcoming travellers (The picture is the Iona at Rothesay)

When steamships began sailing Scotland’s west coast in the early 1800s, they transformed this small coastal settlement into one of the country’s most fashionable Victorian resorts. Visitors arrived by sea, promenaded along the bay, and used Oban as the starting point for journeys deeper into the Highlands.

It was this steady flow of arrivals, departures, and connections that earned Oban its nickname — the “Charing Cross of the Highlands".

Today, that same sense of anticipation still fills the harbour. Ferries come and go, island stories meet on the pier, and visitors continue to begin their west coast adventures.

What's on your time off list for 2026? The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race sails into Oban again, arriving from 10th July. Come and meet the crews and hear their stories.

Did you know there is a Scotland yacht in this year's race? Currently in third place - follow their progress on the 3,400nm journey from Fremantle to Airlie Beach, Australia. After leaving Fremantle, teams head east, tackling the challenging swell before rounding Tasmania and negotiating the often-tricky Bass Strait.
