🐋 Did we find giants? We certainly did…

Our In Search of Giants 2026 took us out into the waters of the continental shelf, west of St Kilda, searching the former whaling grounds for some of the ocean’s most magnificent animals.

And what an adventure it was… 💙

From a basking shark and bottlenose dolphins to incredible seabirds, St Kilda, humpback whales, lunge-feeding minkes and an astonishing aggregation of 20–30 minke whales…

But the moment we’ll never forget came at the edge of the continental shelf. After miles of searching, the cry went up from Guide Dan …

“BLOW!” 🐋

A magnificent fin whale mother and her calf appeared, true giants of the ocean. Also spotted Wilson’s storm petrels!

It was an extraordinary expedition, filled with unforgettable wildlife encounters, spectacular landscapes and some very special moments at sea.

🐋 GIANTS AT THE SHELF EDGE!

What a day out on our In Search of Giants cruise!

We headed out to the shelf edge and were rewarded with the most incredible encounter, a Fin Whale mother and calf travelling together in the deep Atlantic. 💙🐋

And as if that wasn’t special enough, we were also treated to sightings of Wilson’s Storm Petrels!

Two very different ocean wanderers, both perfectly at home out here in the Atlantic.

Who’s ready to go in search of some marine beasties? 🐳 😃

Our In Search of Giants cruise is off to a fantastic start!

So far, our guests have enjoyed lots of dolphins, a basking shark and an abundance of seabirds as we have explored around Vatersay and then the Monarchs today!

And tomorrow… we are heading west. 🌊

The waters of the Atlantic are calling, and we’ll be keeping our eyes firmly peeled as we set off in search of giants. 🐋

What will we find? Keep watching this space… 👀

There is something rather special about seeing our guests enjoying the outdoors, especially when there’s a little cake and fizz involved! 🥂🍰🌿

Our cruises are all about making the most of the incredible places we visit, slowing down, sharing good food and drink, and enjoying wonderful company.

And one of the loveliest things to see is friendships forming along the way. Guests who arrive as strangers often leave as friends, with plenty of stories, laughter and memories to take home with them. 💙

Meet Sarah Kirk – our first female skipper at the helm of Elizabeth G! ⚓️💙

Yesterday was a very special day as Sarah took the helm of Elizabeth G and set sail as our first female skipper! 🙌🏼

Sarah has been part of the Hebrides Cruises family for an incredible 18 years and knows Elizabeth G inside and out. She has supported us behind the scenes and helped keep the vessel in tip-top shape during the winter months – but today, she was firmly in the skipper’s seat! 👩‍✈️⚓️

We couldn’t be more delighted and proud to see Sarah at the helm. A fantastic milestone for Sarah, for Elizabeth G, and for all of us at Hebrides Cruises.

Congratulations Sarah – here’s to many more adventures at the helm! 💙

What a lovely encounter at Loch Spelve today! Our guests were treated to a very special close up visit from this curious otter, who swam right up to the shore as Neil, our skipper, was picking up the guests.

A magical moment and one of those unforgettable wildlife encounters that makes exploring the Hebrides so special! 🤎
