We are in the plains of Arafah for Yawm Al Arafah (the Day of Arafah), the 9th day of Dhul-Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar. It is the holiest day in the annual Hajj pilgrimage and is called Rukn e Azam (the major pillar).

Pilgrims move out of Mina to gather at the plain of Arafah for intense prayer and reflection. The Prophet Muhammad PBUH said, "Hajj is Arafah" — meaning that standing there is the core of the pilgrimage.

Muslims not on Hajj are encouraged to fast on this day. It is believed to expiate sins from the previous year and the coming year.

This is also the day when Allah’s final revelation came to the Prophet PBUH with the verse "Today I have perfected your religion for you.

This very special day is a day before Eid al-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice.

Prophet PBUH said: “There is no day in which Allah sets free more slaves from Hell-fire than the Day of Arafah.” May we be amongst those. Ameen!

Jabal al-Rahmah, also known as Mount Arafah, is one of the most important landmarks of Arafah.

Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) stood there with his companions during his famous sermon known as Farewell Sermon leaning against the white pillar in the picture. This was Prophet’s last Hajj and he left this world within few months.

In some narratives, Hazrat Adam and Hawa (Eve) supposedly met on Jabal al-Rahmah after separately descending from heaven on earth. They have been lost for a very long time before reunion. It also narrated that Hazrat Adam du’aa for maghfirah was accepted here.

It is also narrated people will meet here on the Day of Qiyamah.
