🐑🌿 𝗔 𝗙𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗚𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺! 🌿🐑

The Sperrins Partnership were delighted to host a wonderful farm visit to 𝗚𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺 on Tuesday, welcoming the P6 pupils from St Canice Primary School, Dungiven, for a fun-filled day of learning and discovery!

Set in a stunning location overlooking the beautiful Sperrin Mountains, the children had the opportunity to learn all about life on the farm from Jamese, gaining a fascinating insight into the daily work involved in running a farm.

One of the highlights was the sheepdog experience, where the pupils watched Jess and the other sheepdogs skilfully manage the sheep, demonstrating techniques passed down through generations.

There were plenty of aww moments too, as the children got the chance to hold some adorable newborn lambs!

The pupils also discovered the journey of wool, from shearing the sheep to creating beautiful handmade items such as hats and scarves, all available to purchase at the farm.

The day finished off with a beautiful lunch at the Ponderosa. Thanks to all the staff for their fantastic hospitality.

A brilliant day filled with learning, laughter and hands-on experiences, helping the next generation connect with farming, nature and the wonderful rural heritage of the Sperrins.

A huge thank you to Jamese at Glenshane Country Farm for such a warm welcome and an unforgettable experience!

They are interested in understanding how teachers use, or could use, local archaeology in their teaching and invite you to complete the survey to share your experiences.

The survey should take about 15 minutes to complete and is open to teachers in primary and post-primary schools in Northern Ireland. You don’t need to have taught archaeology before; we are interested in all perspectives. You can access the survey via the link below⬇

is officially underway, and we want to see if we can beat the number of squirrel and pine marten sightings submitted from January to June 2026.

Take a look at how your county is stacking up for each species – and help us build on these numbers.

We want to see more sightings from across Northern Ireland, with a particular focus on County Derry/L’Derry, where we’re keen to fill some important gaps in our knowledge.

Applications are now open for Winter 2026–Spring 2027 Trees on the Land project.

Applications are open to all communities and landowners: farmers, smallholders, community groups, schools, colleges, sports clubs, golf clubs, youth groups, healthcare and hospital grounds, councils, church and faith communities, gardeners and many others.

Applications are accepted on a first come first served basis. There are limited numbers of trees and applications will be closed early if all trees are accounted for before the deadline.

𝗔 𝗳𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗲𝘀 𝗡𝗜🌄

It was great to be part of the recent Landscapes NI members’ meetings and site visits around Silent Valley, Castlewellan and Tyrella.

The two days were a brilliant opportunity to share experiences, learn from others and have some really valuable conversations around landscape management, collaborating and building resilient landscapes for the future.

A big thank you to everyone involved for the openness, knowledge sharing and great discussion – and to our hosts at Mourne Heritage Trust and Mourne Gullion Stranford Geopark for helping make the visits so worthwhile.

It's always encouraging to see what can be achieved when organisations and people come together with a shared commitment to our landscape and natural heritage.

To facilitate essential tree harvesting works by the Forestry Service NI, OM Dark Sky Park and Observatory the Trailhead, Play Park and access to Davagh Forest walking and mountain biking trails will be temporarily closed from Monday 28 to Wednesday 30 September 2026.
