Dry Stone Walls are a remarkable part of our landscape. Built without mortar, they have stood the test of time, telling stories of human ingenuity, cultural heritage and our connection with the land.

Come along and discover the traditional craft of drystone walling through a practical demonstration using locally sourced stone.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

🌄𝐄𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐞 - 𝐅𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬🌄

Last night, the Sperrins Partnership had the pleasure of joining local community members for a wonderful evening of shared stories, knowledge and local history from the Benedy Glen, the wider Dungiven area and beyond.

The group took a short journey to a local farm, where the kind landowners generously provided access to a remarkable Cashel fort, perched high on the land overlooking the stunning Benedy Glen.

We then explored a local souterrain — an underground passageway offering a fascinating glimpse into the area's past and the ways people once sought shelter and protection.

A huge thanks to Declan Devlin for sharing his knowledge and expertise with everyone, and to all those who came along and so generously shared their own stories and local knowledge.

The evening finished with a lovely cup of tea back at Benedy Hall — the perfect end to an inspiring evening in such a beautiful location.

🌊𝐑𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐚𝐭 𝐒𝐚𝐦𝐬 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐡𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫🌊

Thanks to everyone who came along and supported what was a very interesting and informative evening held at Sams Strahulter Slumber.

The event took place at Sam and Kate’s beautiful family farm, situated along the Owenkillew River. A huge thank you to Damien from FROG CIC, who shared a wealth of knowledge about our river systems, the species they support, and the vital importance of water quality. Also, thanks to Cillian, a young fishing enthusiast, who was on hand to support the evening.

Following the walk and talk along the riverbank, everyone gathered around the kitchen table, where Kate treated us all to delicious homemade bakes, treats and tea. Simply delicious!

The evening finished with a tour of the beautiful farmhouse self-catering accommodation, giving everyone the opportunity to see this wonderful place for themselves.

A heartfelt thank you to Sam, Kate and Damien for sharing their time, knowledge and hospitality, and to everyone who joined us and helped make the event such a success.

This map shows verified barn owl and long-eared owl sightings across Northern Ireland in 2025 – and there’s a striking gap in the west.

In 2025, there were zero verified barn owl records in Fermanagh or Derry, and just one in Tyrone (this excludes known nest sites).

We know barn owls are out there, but without sightings being reported, it’s difficult to build a clear picture of where they are and where they need our help.
