Lutra Lutra . The elusive otter.

Bubbles the female otter has a year old cub. This is her enjoying a calm winters day.
Otters have 50000 hairs per cm2 to enable them to swim and hunt in the freezing waters of the West Coast of Scotland.

As the days get longer these iconic creatures will venture out more in daylight. Females are pregnant, hunting for food and getting ready to give birth in March and April.
So look out for wee Kits May and June.

Otter photography workshop at it's best, it's been a fabulous last few days tracking and photographing my local Otters with Dan James Philips who is up on holiday in Skye and wanted to get closer to Otters for amazing photos, not one of the Otters knew we were nearby so fabulous result. Exciting news...in September and October 2025
Skye High Wildlife will be offering a Bespoke Wildlife Watching and Photographic retreat in South Skye.
You will be going to sleep in a wooden cabin sleeping 4 to 6 people equipped with all amenities, including a super cosy log burner. You will wake in the morning to awesome views across Loch Eishort and the Black Cuillin.

Otters, Golden Eagle, Stags, White tailed Eagles, Seals, Whooper Swans, Pine Marten.
