Lawrence of Arabia's camera.

Whilst in Oxford University's history of science museum yesterday I came across T.E. Lawrence's Camera along with an interesting write up about the man himself that I thought may be of interest to some being that we traversed the tunnel he is reportedly to of gone down in 1908 on one of my videos. I shall post a link at the bottom of this write up for those whom haven't seen it yet.

T.E. Lawrence is best known now as Lawrence of Arabia for his role in the Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Empire during the First World War. Before his military career he worked as an archaeologist for the British Museum at Carchemish in Syria from 1910-14.
He ordered this versatile camera in 1910 to document his work. The flill movement of the lens panel and the provision of a wide-angle
lens enabled high quality photography not only of whole landscapes and buildings but also small objects.

The folding wooden dark-slide labelled I is to hold photographic glass plates. The example marked 9 is for use with cut 61m.

Exeter College chapel. Designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott and build by symm and Company in 1859. My main goal was to see the construction of the roof above the church as the vaulting in the chapel is so beautiful I wanted to see what it looked like from above and altho its not what most would deam amazing in a typical sense, construction wise it is phenomenal! what they achieve and way before we had our modern construction techniques is a work of art not many are lucky enough to see. An added bonus was the sheer amount of graffiti on the walls up the tower.

I'm working at Exeter college this week so I shall be back bring you some history of our beautiful city. Here is a few photos of the rad cam from the mound in Exeter, a high view of the college library and the back of the Bodleian library, and a beautiful but scary grotesque that can only be seen from the top of of Pamers tower (15th century) I be back soon with more videos so keep an eye out!

I have spoken to three people this week who had either heard storys of Oxfords famous underground stream or had navigated it via canoe in their youth!

If you haven't already seen it, here is the link to my exploration into Oxfords trill mill stream made famous by Lawrence of Arabia who navigated it in 1908 😁

Many of us have heard the storys of Oxfords famous underground water way Trill Mill Stream that Lawrence of Arabia navigated back in 1909. In this video we f...

To all lovers of history,

Please go and have a look at the link below to the environmental agencys Lidarfinder, this is the most amazing tool that allows us to find forgotten structures such as forts and other long forgotten structures hidden in our surroundings!

Between us we should be able to scourer the local landscape for new discovery's and areas of interest.

I would love to hear what you find even more so if you go to the field and find the structure on the ground (please follow all covid guidelines and stay at home until restrictions are lifted).

Happy hunting and I look forward to seeing what you find 😊

Regards
Stuart.
