Dead Man's Walk today. So called because in medieval times the Jews of were required to transport their dead outside the town walls for burial. In 1290 all Jews were expelled from England by Edward 1, and didn't return until the mid 1600s. Merton College on the left.

The Oxford University website states that there is evidence of teaching in Oxford from 1096, but with uncharacteristic lack of academic rigour doesn’t go into much detail.
