Discover Renfrewshire & Paisley Heritage with The Urban Historian

We have a new group for discussion and event information. Facebook keeps changing things, and we can now only post 2 links a month to websites away from facebook on normal pages. The new group should allow us to post and create events easier and at the same time allow moderated discussion on anything related to the history of the Old County of Renfrew, Renfrewshire Heritage, Renfrewshire Ancestors and ofcourse the The Urban Historian. We can also host discussion relating to our Heritage Buddies graveyard recording project.

It would be great of all of our could join the group. We will ofcourse continue to update our usual facbook pages, but possibly less frequently.
Thanks in advance, Stephen

Tonights talk/ workshop on Mapping Paisley's Textile Heritage still has some places available.

We meet at 7pm in Paisley: St George's on Causeyside Street (entrance on Causeyside St, NOT the Halls entrance on Stow Street)

You can book online using PayPal and we can aslo accept cards on the night. See comments for link to the event page.

Our talk/ workshop on Tuesday 25th August will be looking at the locations of Paisley's textile industries. Today we all know Maxwelto, but did you know it came into existsance as a seperate village outwith the Burgh of Paisley? It was created as a weaving centre, with weavers cottages lining Newton Street, Main Street (Maxwelton Street today) and Maxwelton Cross (Ferguslie Walk Today). The last weavers cottages disapeared from Maxwelton Street when nthe new housing was being built on the site of the former Ferguslie Mills.

Today its weaving orgins are mostly forgotten. If you want to discover more about our textile heritage, come along to our session at Paisley: St George's at 7pm on Tuesday. The cost is £7

You can book on the ticket link in our event post: https://www.facebook.com/events/1108153165498295/?acontext=%7B%22event_action_history%22%3A[%7B%22surface%22%3A%22home%22%7D%2C%7B%22mechanism%22%3A%22attachment%22%2C%22surface%22%3A%22newsfeed%22%7D]%2C%22ref_notif_type%22%3Anull%7D

We are having issues with the card payment option for our events. (It's between our bank and the website shop after a recent software update). As a backup we have enabled PayPal as a payment option until the card payment issue is fixed.

If you are booking free events, please continue to use the card payment option as it bypasses the banking section for free events.

Any issues, please let us know.
