NOTE: We are lucky enough to be booked for TT 2024 by our regular visitors. Just a few lines about what you will find at the cottage and a little about the cottage itself. Nelson's Cottage was constructed around 1850 in old Peel and many of the original features remain including some areas and doorways with lowered headroom. We are dog friendly so - anyone who is allergic to animals please be awar

e! We also do not provide specialist equipment to cater for young children as requirements can be quite specific. Access is directly from the street- this is generally quiet with half a dozen vehicles an hour during the day moving at very slow speeds. Theres no parking but you can pull up for a short time and unload. Access into the cottage is via a key safe and we will let you know your code before arrival. There is also an access from the side of the building to an enclosed passageway which is ideal for bringing in wet dogs for a rub down or to store cycles. The accommodation is offered over 2 floors and although the front door access would be suitable for wheelchair users, space is limited and wheelchair use would be restricted to ground floor only- and the bathroom is at first floor level.. The living room has a double settee and 2 easy chairs, TV, book storage and coffee table. There is a wood burning stove- you are welcome to bring your own seasoned wood and we can provide some at £6 per bag or heat logs at £2.50p each. We just ask that you leave the stove cleaned out after use. The adjacent kitchen is equipped with a dining table, ample worktop and storage cupboards, fridge freezer, dishwasher, toaster, kettle, microwave, pots, pans, slow cooker, utensils, glasses and pot towels/ dish clothes and washing up liquid. We always provide a starter pack of tea, coffee, milk and a welcome gift-usually cake and sweets. The living room and kitchen are finished in wooden laminate flooring. The first floor is reached by a flight of 12 fairly steep stairs. To the right is an airy king sized bedroom with bedside tables, a dressing table that could be used as a desk and a hanging wardrobe. There are bedside lights. The smaller bedroom has a double bed and hanging wardrobe and also space to store luggage. All bed linen is provided which have been laundered professionally by Laxey Laundry. Both beds have deep and very comfortable mattresses. Bedrooms have carpeted floors. There is also a bathroom with loo, wash-hand basin and bath with a shower over (the electric one is switched from outside the bathroom). Heating is pre programmed via WiFi ;we try to ensure that you are comfortable! Good broadband is available for no charge- great for making WhatsApp etc calls because Manx calls can be expensive- check with your phone provider. Finally, we always recommend that you take out travel insurance- the Isle of Man has a reciprocal health agreement with the Uk but this covers emergency treatment only ! Here at Nelsons Holiday Cottage in Peel we’re excited at the start of another season welcoming guests to our beautiful Island. But our window boxes have taken a battering with the winter winds and sands. To the rescue have come Watsons nurseries at Greeba with great advice on some lovely hardy plants - grasses and heathers. At Nelson's Holiday Cottage in Old Peel, we're always looking out for unusual items and furniture for the cottage. We bought an interesting rustic industrial drum end coffee table which had 3 holes/ recesses which were part of the original drum and cable feeds. It would have been easy to put a glass of wine straight down the centre hole!
In stepped the very talented Tony at Viva Wood Studio at Peel. The holes have been carefully filled with sea blue coloured epoxy with inlaid sea shells and I hope you agree, these look gorgeous and fitting for a seaside cottage!

Her top speed under sail is 14 knots (16 mph; 26 km/h),[2] and 10 knots (12 mph; 19 km/h) under power. The vessel is maintained by a crew of 18, and can accommodate 88 passengers.

A Manx Affair

Over 13 years ago I sailed into Peel on the west coast of the beautiful Isle of Man. The weather changed and delayed my return to Wales and the longer I stayed, the less inclined I was to go back! So I didn’t. Amazingly I was allowed to stay and work and as time went by I grew to love the wildness, the ever changing views of the sea, the friendliness of the people, the Celtic culture and music and even the windy Manx winters. The beauty of the island is something that everyone should experience at sometime for there really is something here for everyone, young and more mature alike. So why not come and take a look? You never know, you may end up staying a little longer then you intended- like I did!!

Last year I bought Nelson’ Cottage - so appropriately named for this old seadog I guess- and together with my small but mighty team we have spent 9 months creating a lovely comfortable Manx Tourist Board registered 2 bedroomed self catering cottage for 2 man’s best friend’s (smaller breeds) and 4 of their well behaved humans. It has the things that matter for a holiday here- good heating, a woodburner, soaky bath, hugely comfortable beds and proximity to pubs, restaurants and local shops. There’s somewhere to store cycles/ smaller motorbikes, fully equipped kitchen/ dining room and comfortable lounge. The cottage is open all year round. Out of season we have flexibility of booking subject to a minimum of 2 nights stay.

Im enormously grateful to all those who have helped me with the refurbishment of Nelson’s Cottage- without your help this would never have happened! Special thanks to legendary sidecar racer Alan Warner and intrepid passenger Helen, Pam, Xander and Seren, John Eccles, Lesley Dodrell for her unique furniture refurbishment, Ernie “Biffo”, Nicola and team from The Manx Tourism Board and last but not least, Molly, Tegan and Brigit, advisors for four legged visitors.
