What better way to mark our return to the Celtic Deep than with an unexpected encounter with one of the ocean's most extraordinary fish 🀩

It took something truly special to distract us from the blue sharks, but a mola mola (ocean sunfish) slowly gliding past certainly did the trick. Watching this huge, prehistoric-looking, and strange looking, fish move so effortlessly through the water was an unforgettable moment and a real highlight of the weekend.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us on our Weekend Trip. The sea conditions certainly kept us on our toes, but the wildlife made every minute worthwhile. Alongside the blue sharks and sunfish, we were also treated to dolphins accompanying us on the journey, adding even more magic to an incredible day offshore 🦈🐬🦭🐟

🌊Happy Volunteers' Week!🌊

This week, we're celebrating the incredible people who give their time, energy, and enthusiasm to help protect and connect others with our marine environment πŸ’™

We're especially proud of our Year in Industry students, who have dedicated the past year to supporting marine conservation, education, and responsible wildlife tourism here in Pembrokeshire.
They joined us in July 2025 just in time for shark season and have since become a huge part of the Celtic Deep team. From assisting on wildlife trips and collecting valuable marine megafauna data, to sharing their passion for the ocean with participants. They've contributed countless hours to conservation and public engagement.

Alongside their day-to-day roles, they've led and supported a variety of projects. They've helped deliver our Wildlife on One Breath programme, inspired local school pupils through marine wildlife presentations, and encouraged people of all ages to connect with and care for the ocean.

They've also represented Celtic Deep at community events, collaborated with organisations including Project Seagrass and Sea Trust, and taken part in opportunities to learn from conservation practitioners across Wales.

With puffin season well underway, they're continuing to build their experience as assistant guides, sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm with guests, and playing a vital role ensuring everything running smoothly behind the scenes.

Volunteers, interns, placement students, citizen scientists, and community supporters all play a vital role in conservation. This Volunteers' Week, we'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helps turn wildlife encounters into conservation action.

Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming volunteer/work experience opportunities with Celtic Deep πŸ¦ˆπŸ¦€πŸŸ

Lundy never disappoints! Not only did we have the ever playful seals but a huge range of jellyfish, clear waters, blue sky and lots of seabirds. We then had the privilege of being joined by a pod of bottlenose dolphins on our way back to Tenby 🐬 Compared to the common dolphins which are as the name suggests commonly seen the bottlenose are a real rarity.

What a day!!!

Sharkademy 2025 is officially underway – and Tuesday set the tone for the week in style!

This year’s cohort enjoyed an epic day offshore, with the Celtic Deep firing on all cylinders: encounters with blue sharks, bait balls of bluefin tuna peppered by gannets and close swim-bys from curious common dolphins.

What a start! 🦈🐬🐟✨

Absolute pleasure hosting James Stewart from the Telegraph on a recent Skomer Snorkelling trip. Lovely article highlighting just what a shining light Skomer is amongst what is unfortunately a bleaker picture for puffin colonies in the North Atlantic. This is due to Skomer benefiting from the protection of the Marine Conservation Zone and thus having healthy sandeel stocks in close proximity to the island.

James' playful take on how we interact with the puffins is actually super important. The best results, both for the human and the puffin, come when the humans are still and the puffins approach. The decoys are key to piquing their curiosity and making that magic happen.

Article available here. Thanks James!
