​Gail captured our story, our passion for welcoming dogs (as the primary guests!), and our love for life on the road so perfectly. We are beyond proud to be listed alongside such wonderful, truly dog-first holiday properties.

🐾 MEET THE OWNERS: MARK, CHARMAINE… AND THE VERY LOVELY DOUGHNUT 🐾

I’ve added a couple more fabulous owners to our Meet the Owners blog today, because I really do want you lovely lot to know the people behind the cottages.

Not a faceless booking system.
Not some mysterious “property management team” living in a beige office.
Actual dog people. With stories, muddy boots and, in this case, a life on the road.

Meet Mark and Charmaine, the lovely humans behind Chyvounder in Perranuthnoe, Cornwall.

Charmaine is originally from South Africa, Mark is from Horsham, and after years together in South Africa with their beloved Jack Russells, they moved back to the UK.

These days, they live in a caravan and travel around the country while running Chyvounder.

Which is either gloriously adventurous or evidence that neither of them has any interest in behaving sensibly. I approve enormously.

Mark is semi-retired, while Charmaine loves wild swimming, foraging, crafting, nature and holistic wellbeing.

Then they stumbled across Chyvounder.

And fell in love with it.

By then, their pack had gradually dwindled down to their sweet little Doughnut, but all those years of loving and living with dogs had shaped exactly what they wanted Chyvounder to be.

Not somewhere dogs are merely tolerated.

Not somewhere you’re handed seventeen rules and charged extra because your dog has apparently requested use of the spa.

A place where dogs are properly welcome.

Their favourite bit is seeing guests and their dogs come back after a big day on the coast path, tired, happy and ready to flop.

Which sounds pretty bloody perfect to me.

Their Top-Dog Tip is to head out from Perranuthnoe along the South West Coast Path towards Prussia Cove or Cudden Point.

Big sea views.
Rocky coves.
Brilliant sniffs.

Then finish with a drink in a dog-friendly pub, because nature is lovely but so is sitting down.

🔥 Protecting Our Beautiful Cornish Coastline: Important Safety Update 🔥

In light of the recent UK Government Emergency Alerts and severe wildfire warnings across the country, we are asking all guests and visitors to take extra care during this dry spell.

Our coastal paths, fields, and gardens down here in West Cornwall are currently tinder-dry. To help protect our local countryside, wildlife, homes, and visitors, we are enforcing a temporary ban on all open flames.

Between now and the 4th of September, to protect Chyvounder, our wildlife, and the surrounding countryside:

❌ NO naked flames of any kind (including disposable BBQs, fire pits, chimineas, or candles).
❌ NO BBQs or fires while out on local walks, cliff paths, or beaches.

We love nothing more than seeing our guests enjoy the outdoors, but keeping our beautiful landscape and local community safe comes first.

Thank you so much for your understanding and help in protecting our coastal home! If you see any signs of fire while out and about, please dial 999 immediately. 🚨

A huge thank you to Karen, her husband, and their two lovely beagles for taking the time to share their experience. Knowing that guests who stayed under the previous ownership have come back and loved all our new touches means the world to us.

When we took over Chyvounder, our mission was to take something already wonderful and turn it into the ultimate home-from-home.
