It’s been a busy few months for us here at McIntosh Tours! We have been travelling all across the country and have visited many castles along the way. Here are a few highlights 🏰
1. Kilchurn – Located on the banks of Loch Awe, Kilchurn Castle was a stronghold of Clan Campbell of Glenorchy.
2. Craigievar – This pink-hued fairy-tale castle was a seat of Clan Forbes, known for its distinctive Scottish Baronial architecture.
3. Eilean Donan – Situated on a small tidal island where three sea lochs meet, Eilean Donan is one of the most photographed castles in Scotland.
4.Stirling Castle – A historically significant royal fortress, Stirling Castle played a key role in Scottish history and was long connected with Clan Stewart, Scotland’s royal house.
5. Blair Castle – The ancestral home of Clan Murray and the famous Atholl Highlanders.
6. Forter Castle – Rebuilt in the 20th century, Forter Castle in Glenisla was originally constructed by Clan Ogilvy as a defensive structure against northern clans.
7. Dunnottar – Perched on cliffs above the North Sea, Dunnottar was a strategic fortress of Clan Keith, hereditary Marischals of Scotland.
8. Lochranza Castle – Overlooking the Isle of Arran’s Loch Ranza, this ruined structure was associated with Clan Hamilton, who took ownership in the 17th century.
9. Inveraray Castle - Inveraray Castle, an 18th-century masterpiece on the shores of Loch Fyne, is the ancestral home of Clan Campbell, Dukes of Argyll.
