🧺 Prison Fact: Laundry Behind Bars 🧺
In the later years of Peterhead Prison, prisoners followed strict routines when it came to washing and drying clothes. Laundry was collected on set days and cleaned within the prison, with uniforms, bedding and personal items all carefully accounted for.
With the harsh North East weather, drying clothes was never easy. Industrial drying rooms and heated airing areas were used to make sure uniforms and bedding were ready to be redistributed back to prisoners as quickly as possible.
Even everyday tasks like laundry were run with military-style organisation inside Scotland’s toughest prison.
