We are running late on school contract runs this morning due to an accident which has closed the A19 Southbound between Peterlee and Castle Eden.

This has caused a back up of traffic on all other routes. We are doing our best to get through.

UPDATE 1435hrs - The Road is now re-opened in both directions.

UPDATE:

A man has sadly died following a road traffic collision on the A19 this morning.

Police were called to reports of a collision between a Land Rover and a wagon on the Northbound carriageway, near Castle Eden, just after 6.45am.

The driver of the Land Rover – a 42-year-old man - suffered serious injuries and despite the best efforts of the emergency services, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

His family have been notified and are being supported by specialist officers.

The road remains closed and drivers are asked to find an alternative route.

Due to an RTC, the A19 is closed Southbound between the Peterlee (B1320) and Castle Eden (A181) Junctions.

A sad afternoon after over 5 years of owning this T915 Alicron she’s now handed over to her new owners Cochranes Coaches of Peterlee, who have returned to buy another of our coaches, I wish Ian and crew many years of great motoring and I hope she does as well for you as she has for me
