White Horse Farm Inn just a very short walk along the lane from us. Food is fantastic and always a friendly welcome.

🥾 THE WHITE HORSE FARM INN ON GILL LANE

🍺 Ale has been served at the White Horse Farm Inn since at least 1703, according to local accounts, and we pass it soon after leaving Rosedale Abbey along Gill Lane.

🏡 Often described as a 16th-century inn, it began life as a small farmhouse. It was once called Lane Head, and the 1871 census shows it run by John Garbutt, who worked as both a farmer and an innkeeper.

⛏️ Its liveliest years came with Rosedale's ironstone boom in the 1860s, when miners crowded into the bar after their shifts. The inn was even used for inquests into mining accidents.
