Private tour on the Ulster Scots heritage trail in the beautiful Ards Peninsula in the Ancient East of Ireland.
Lovely young American couple reflect on their full day personalised tour of the area.
We enjoyed interesting conversations, a lovely day out in nature, spotting a seal from the historic ferry and visiting sites significant in the story of the Ulster Scots.

America 250 tour in the autumn sunshine.

First lovely guests on a private tour of the Ulster Scots heritage trail around the Ards Peninsula. In the beautiful autumn sunshine we travelled to the picturesque town of Donaghadee, Grace Neill’s pub and then on to Burr Point, the most easterly point on the island of Ireland.
From there our next stop was Portaferry where we hopped on the historic ferry service to Strangford. We visited Newtownards, home of Hugh Montgomery.
The young couple visited the prison cell in the town hall.
We packed a lot into the one day tour. They enjoyed the he scenic tour and hearing the many stories of connection between the Ards and America, as well as stories of local colourful characters.

Amazing story of Bangor City and Saint Columbanus.

Bangor City has a rich Christian heritage dating back to the 6th Century. Last week I shared the amazing story of the monastic community that once lived in Bangor with a group of friends from across Northern Ireland.
Columbanus left Bangor in the late 6th Century and he established a string of monasteries across mainland Europe. We visited Bangor Abbey, the Christian heritage exhibition at North Down museum. After the tour we enjoyed a lovely lunch

So much to see and enjoy in County Down

A lovely tour group who asked lots of thoughtful questions and showed great interest in all the places we visited.

Stay in a luxury hotel and enjoy a private guided tour taking you through the rolling County Down countryside. That’s what a lovey group of US visitors did last week. I joined their coach at the Culloden hotel & Spa and we headed off to Country Park to see the iconic tower and enjoy panoramic views over the Lough and surrounding countryside.We enjoyed a delicious lunch in Balloo house before travelling on to see romantic Killyleagh Castle.
Next stop was the magnificent Down Cathedral and Saint Patrick’s grave. Then onward through the green rolling hills and golden fields of harvested barley to the beautiful little church on the site of St Patrick’s first church.
The group travelled on the historic ferry to Portaferry and then north to Donaghadee.We had plenty of craic and laughter and they learnt a lot about the area and its’ people. A huge thank you to Adrian and Annika for-the opportunity to contribute to a wonderful Irish holiday experience.

The hedgerows are laden with ripe or ripening fruit after the wonderful weather all summer. Time to go blackberry picking….
