Got to say some words of thanks for Umar, this guy has been ferrying me around nearly everyday for the last 5 weeks! Never once been late, always been there when I need him, so polite and gracious. Never once moaned about getting his car dirty with sand, always been there exactly when I need him.

A true pleasure to eat, drink and travel with this man. Learn about his life, his family, his beliefs and way of life. Such a happy chap and been a blessing to meet him. I have certainly looked after him and cannot wait for our next adventures.

One of the biggest problem with Divers at the moment?

We get to see 100’s, if not 1000’s of divers a year in the places we live. We have great relationships with some of the best Instructors in each and thankfully built great friendships. They do this daily.

More and more divers have huge expectations of seeing bigger life, some places it’s easy to deliver and some not. Social media is very much responsible for this as people see an image/video and a diver automatically expect to see the same. It does not work like that. I have felt the pressure to deliver from divers.

Divers are expecting to go to a destination and do 1 day of diving and get to see what they want. It simply does not work like that.

Let’s take the Mola Mola for instance, firstly, if you are on a shared boat, you will only do one dive in that location and possible two with some operators. You could do this for 3 days and still not see one. It’s just the way it works but the problem is the pressure divers put on the guides and instructors.

We have just spent 9 days at the sites and doing 3 dives a day, purely for Mola Mola research. Each of those days we were the first boat there and in the water before anybody else. 4am wake up.

Sometimes you get a glimpse, sometimes you see none and we hit the jackpot and see them cleaning 7 out of the 27 dives. 4 of those times it was over 40m.

Don’t expect to go for 1-2 days and see them. You may be lucky and maybe you won’t. It’s the ocean.
