Having been made redundant whilst pregnant with my second daughter, I had no job to return to, and knowing that I didn't want to resume doing the dreaded London commute, working a few hours a week for a lovely local business seemed like the perfect solution! I enjoyed the work so much that after a couple of months I decided to start taking on more clients and officially become 'self-employed'! I a
m able to work around my young family - my daughters are at school during the week and I can also catch up on work in the evenings and weekends. I try to be as flexible as possible - for some clients I join them in their home offices, for others I work in a business office, and for others I work from home on a flexible schedule. They all know I will work to suit their hours as much as possible and I am always happy to take on additional and ad-hoc work. Equally, the work I do for clients does not need to be on a regular basis. One of my clients just tells me when they need me and I travel to them for a couple of hours to catch up on some invoices. I'm pleased to say that I get on really well with all of my clients, which certainly helps me to enjoy what I do! I pride myself on being both professional and personable at the same time.
