One of the highlights of my recent Finland trip. So much to do here but feeding reindeer is a must!

This reindeer farm near Kuusamo has been in the same family for six generations. The reindeer live free in the forests all summer and come back to the farm over winter to be fed and taken care of. Such gentle creatures (they don’t bite - worst case you get gummed!)

✈️ **BIG NEWS FOR TANZANIA**

This is one new flight route I’m very excited about!

British Airways is launching new flights from Gatwick to Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar next summer, making one of my favourite holiday combinations much easier.

From 29 May 2027, BA will fly three times a week from Gatwick to Kilimanjaro, before continuing on to Zanzibar.

And that opens up some fantastic possibilities.

🦁 Fly into Kilimanjaro for a safari through Tanzania’s incredible Northern Circuit – think the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire.

🏝️ Then finish with a few days on the white-sand beaches of Zanzibar.

Even better, the flights run through the summer holidays and into October half term, right through some of the best months for safari.

Safari + beach + direct from Gatwick? Yes please.

✍️ From Alex’s Desk

No travel for me this week, but my clients have still been taking me from one end of the temperature scale to the other!

I’ve been putting together a fantastic tailor-made Iceland trip for a group of adults, based at the gorgeous Hotel Borg in Reykjavik. They’ll be exploring the Golden Circle, snowmobiling, heading out whale watching and finishing the trip with a very well-earned day at the Sky Lagoon. I’m slightly jealous of this one!

At the warmer end of things, I’ve also had Mauritius, the Maldives and Antigua on my screen this week, with lots of lovely winter-sun and Christmas breaks underway.

Last Friday's judging of the Aspire Luxury Travel Awards was a brilliant experience. It was fascinating seeing how different suppliers presented themselves, but one of the most useful parts was actually the conversations around the judging table. Hearing other agents’ experiences of the hotels, cruise lines and tour operators they use with their own clients was incredibly valuable. Notes were taken!

It was also really nice to give something back to Aspire, as they do so much to support those of us working in luxury travel.

And now I’m getting ready for my own adventure as the full itinerary and meeting schedule for my Finnish Lapland trip has landed. I’ll be visiting some of the region’s luxury log cabins and glass igloos, feeding reindeer, trying the smoke sauna and, hopefully, tracking down the Northern Lights.

And I really am back to my desk properly now that the kids are fully back at school! It's definitely feeling more like autumn and suddenly everyone seems to be thinking about next year’s holidays.

I’ve been looking at some particularly lovely ones this week – Antigua, Mauritius and the Maldives are all on my desk, while other clients are heading off a little closer to home, with trips to Mallorca, Madrid and a journey on the scenic trains of Switzerland coming up.

But today I’m swapping holiday planning for judging, as I’m spending the day on the panel for the Aspire Luxury Travel Awards, looking at the Best Supplier categories. I’m really looking forward to seeing what everyone has been doing over the past year!

I’ve also been beavering away behind the scenes on my first Cruise Showcase on 9th October. If you’ve wondered what it’s really like to take your family on a cruise, I’ve finally written up our recent holiday aboard EXPLORA III. It turned into a rather epic blog post, but there was a lot to say! I’ll pop the link in the comments below.

Next up for me? Finnish Lapland next month, where I’ve been invited by the tourist board to experience some of their luxury properties first-hand. I suspect that one might get me feeling rather festive rather early… ❄️
