J is for Jute Backing!
At Penthouse Carpets Ltd they’ve retained the traditional approach, only using natural jute backing on their woollen carpets. The mostly widely used natural fibre after cotton, jute is a golden silky fibre produced from the stems of the Corchorus plant, which has been cultivated in India and Bangladesh for centuries. Integrating the fabric woven from this sustainable natural fibre into carpets is not only better for the environment; it’s easier for carpet fitters to work with too; being flexible, strong and resilient, giving a superb finish even on tricky areas like staircases.
