The eighth season of The Original Rochester Spooky Tour kicks off on Friday 3rd October — with a special Halloween tour on Friday 31st October! 🎃

With over 6,000 survivors so far, this is our most popular experience — and for good reason. From grisly Tudor executions to ghostly encounters and terrifying discoveries, this tour takes you deep into Rochester’s haunted past.

It's less than TWO WEEKS to the Rochester Sweeps Festival 2025 and we'll be giving you information in the run up to the event here and on our partner pages: Visit Rochester UK, What's on Rochester, Rochester City Artisan Market, Rochester History Guided Tours, and Rochester City Centre Forum.

EASTGATE QUARTER - the area outside the medieval walls of the City of Rochester has always had its own distinct character - and this Sweeps Festival will be no exception!

This year, the area from City Wall Wine Bar to Playopolis Board Game Cafe Bar is going to be VERY FAMILY FRIENDLY, with activities in a variety of locations all along 'Eastgate High Street'.

One of the key places will be EASTGATE GARDENS, behind Eastgate House and Lennys of Eastgate - here you'll find a magical world for the younger ones including face painting, a fairy photo point, a cake stall children will LOVE ! and ... a pick n mix!

With a fairy ring on the lawn at the rear of Lenny's it all adds up to a wonderful space for your kids to call their 'own special part of the festival'.

Face painting (fee payable) is provided by local Rochester artists Porgie’s Face Painting and Party Hire

Every tour guide needs to be well fed 🤣🤣... and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

In my quest for a new summer weight jacket for my guided tours, I stopped off at Koffee & Buns by Easydine in Royal Star Arcade Maidstone for a coffee and a bit of Victoria Sponge (always my go-to in the face of trendy 'stuff' 🤣).

Anyway, I now have a new petrol blue Karrimor jacket so people can spot me outside Guildhall Museum Rochester when I'm not in my top hat.... and I'm all set up for the rest of the day 😊🍰☕️

🎃 One autumn night on The Original Rochester Spooky Tour, two guests took some harmless photos near Rochester Cathedral.

But when one of them—an experienced photographer—checked her iPhone later, there was one photo she didn’t take. It shouldn’t exist. And yet…

🖤 Ghostly figures.
🖤 Unexplainable motion.
🖤 A face in the shadows.
🖤 Eyes staring back from the dark.

The image disturbed everyone who saw it—even professionals.

Rochester History Guided Tours is pleased to announce its new venture - TourChester: Escape the ordinary - Explore the extraordinary!

For some time, I've wanted to spread my tour guiding wings beyond Medway and bring together independent, passionate local guides (like me!) from all over the UK.

But that took finding the right booking platform to make it happen - and back in January.... I found it!

I've teamed up with FareHarbor and created an all new website and branding to take things forward.

For those of you who've supported RHGT over the past nine years, don't worry! It's not disappearing, but it will be reserved for local promotions.

TourChester and FareHarbor will give me access to global OTA's (Viator, Get Your Guide, Expedia etc) and that means, initially, more visitors coming to Rochester - and that's been my aim from day one.

I do hope you'll help me promote TourChester by sharing our posts and, when I can contact all my past clients by email, helping establish our online 'cred' by giving us a review on Google My Business.

More of that over the coming weeks. In the meantime, a simple Like or Follow will help get the TourChester bandwagon rolling...
