Brookside Snake peg 29.
Keeping things local I decided to have a fish at Brookside and to have a session on the snake lakes, not having spent a lot of time on the snake lakes I kept my eye on the match results over the last few weeks and decided to fish peg 29. It was just a simple days fishing trying a few things out that seem to be working during the matches.
Set up for the day was 3 topkits.
Top kit 1, Track line at 7m fishing 3ft and using Stroft 0.16 main line to 0.14 and 16s hook with a 0.3g DT Floats Pellet pinger using meat.
Top kit 2, long line at 14m to the mud and rushes again using meat, Stroft 0.16 mainline to 0.14 and a 16s hook with a 0.2g DT Floats Mudline.
Topkit 3 Short margin line at 2+2, where I used Meat, Corn and dead Reds, Stroft 0.16 to 0.15 and again 16s hook with a 0.3g DT Floats Mudline, I also mixed up some Bait-Tech Special G Margin mix Groundbait too.
Starting off on the long line on meat i was getting bites straight away but after a while i realised it was bits, so i decided to feed more positively via a medium Matrix flexi pot with 6mm meat every put in but dropping the meat from a height for a bit of added attraction, this seemed to work for an hour as i landed 3 F1s around 2lb then on my next put in i hooked into a decent fish which led me a merry dance for a while before it pulled the hook and was gone. Swapping onto the track meat line (which iI had been feeding by hand) it was very quiet to be honest and managed to land a few more F1s until the bites stopped on that line too. (i did try to my right in the scum but nothing).
Moving into the afternoon the rain had kicked in but the setting was fantastic with stunning views to my left up the lake with fish topping all over it, i decided to feed heavy on my margin line with the new margin grounbait from Bait-Tech with it having plenty of fishmeal and particles i was sure it would bring a few fish into the area. Dropping in on corn i could not get a bite, swapped to dead reds and the float was away almost immediately with a nice 2lb Skimmer, feeding another pot of groundbait i went over again and had another same sized Skimmer (fantastic looking fish), potting more bait in i could tell i had a few fish in the swim as the float was moving straight away, over the next hour or so i managed 11 F1s from the margin biggest going 3lb all on dead reds.
A lovely session on Brookside fishing the snake lakes, an outstanding local fishery for me with it only being a 10 minute drive away, Mark the owner has done some great work over the last few years with plenty of healthy fish spread across the venue, a fantastic venue for a pleasure session or to try a match with plenty taking place during the week and weekends.
