All breakfasts are personalised according to our guests' desires šŸ˜‹ Our lovely Canadian family requested a more continental style so we provided fruit, yoghurt, toast, pastries, cereal and a side order of scrambled eggs. Like many of our guests, they're visiting family in the village - and cousin Lucas came by to join for a sleepover last night and a tasty Toll House breakfast this morning šŸŒ„

A 'no beans' breakfast this morning.

Things are getting busier now that Spring is approaching (despite the still very wintery weather!). It's very snug and cosy in the garden annex though āœØļø

A clean plate - that's what I like to see! Things are busying up at the Toll House, with four different guests in this week. Always lovely to get a return guest, like our lady today, who remembers us for 'one of the best breakfasts I've ever had' ā¤ļø

Our first weekend of serving breakfast for over a year and I've really enjoyed spoiling our lovely guests, Hope and Marcello. Not the best May Bank Holiday Weekend weather-wise but the sun shone for the alfresco breakfasts. We deviated from the traditional Full English with Bacon & Avocado topped with Wild Mushrooms on Toasted Ciabatta, a big fruit platter with coconut milk yoghurt and some homemade Blueberry Muffins fresh from the oven. A special treat of homemade, berry-filled, chocolate hearts for our newly-engaged couple on the final morning. I do hope they enjoyed it all as much as I enjoyed getting creative in the kitchen.

This lovely lady called Liz stayed with us last night and is walking the Harcamlow Way, a figure of eight walk from Harlow to Cambridge. She told me that Newport is the central point of the '8' where the paths go four different ways - I never knew this despite often coming across the 'Way' on my dog walks. She also said we served up one of the best cooked breakfasts she'd ever had šŸ˜‹ - always nice to know and always my intention to set people up in the best way possible for the day ahead! Happy walking and look forward to meeting you again when your path crosses with Newport once more 😊

Well, we've had a super busy weekend of guests due to the three days of open air concerts at Audley End. Pablo was a desperate Spaniard who we managed to squeeze into my son's bedroom as a special favour as the garden annex was already full with two jolly and lively couples - and what a lovely, interesting man Pablo was too! Then we had a wonderful family of three in for two nights with their incredibly delightful daughter, Violet - here she is below helping me to collect eggs. Must be something about music lovers....very blessed to have such fabulous guests and sad to see them all go šŸ˜

When you run a B&B, you get to meet people, often for the briefest period of time, but get to know quite a lot about their lives before they disappear off again into the world. It really reinforces my belief that 'everyone has a story'. I am very much looking forward to meeting our guest tonight, Richard Smith, who is walking across the 52nd parallel north in Britain. His story is an emotional one, but ultimately, one of positivity and hope for the future. You can read it here: http://www.52inbritain.co.uk/

Home This walk, finding positivity across a random cross-section of Britain (52°N), started on 25 June 2019. Subject to B&B WiFi, I’m hoping to update this website each night until 8 August. To donate to one of my three chosen charities, please click here: 52inBritain.co...
