It's a cracking day to simply sit under the shade of the sun umbrella whilst you rest and plan!

When our guests tuck up at the end of the day, it’s time when wildlife come out to play.

We’ve been paying around with a trail cam. So far, we’ve captured shots of a visiting cat, a fox, a hare and deer.

Can you spot them in these photos?

Aw! We often find lovely comments like this in feedback. It is always great to receive confirmation that we are on the right track. Our aim is to under promise and over deliver.

We love to hear suggestions for improvement from guests too.

People seem surprised at how much there is to do, visit and explore in the Forest of Dean, Wye Valley and wider area. Many people return to to try out more of things on offer.

The area changes visually with the seasons from early spring, to late spring with bluebells , then into summer there is lots to see and do. Autumn presents a kaleidoscope of colour once the Forest begins to change colour. Then winter, although perhaps greyer and cooler, the landscape, events and activities take on a different excitement.

Walking and wildlife, castles and cycling, hiking and hills, railways and rivers, fields and forests. Oh yes and then there are cities to explore with Bath, Bristol, Cardiff, Cheltenham, Gloucester and Hereford all accessible in under an hour by care from The Retreat at Greenfields.

Here is a link to the local tourism website which might offer a glimpse of what the area might offer you when you come to stay.

We like, where possible to greet incoming guests on arrival. Sometimes, we cant help but notice how tired, stressed and/or tense they appear. May be their presentation is due to a long or tricky journey but often we hear it’s due to weeks of hard work and pressure of their daily lives. If we meet them later during their stay, the visual signs have usually reduced - frowns replaced with smiles. Quick, tight, walking gait now slower, softer. Short guarded conversation now more open and relaxed. This really is a joy to see.

Another one of the top comments received from our guests has been around the supply of books, games and jigsaws.

Our British weather offers up such variation in weather and we can’t expect it to suit each set of guests 100% of the time. We therefore offer a wide selection of books, games, jigsaws and DVDs.

We hear that some returning guests revisit for short stays to retreat from their busy or demanding life. They choose to curl up, ignore TV, news and media in favour of peaceful walks, mindfulness, a good book or jigsaw or some yoga - yes we can loan you a yoga mat too.
