My partner, our two boys, and I recently took a lovely family trip to St Leonards, just an hour and a half’s drive from East London. Even the journey felt like part of the holiday, with city streets giving way to open countryside before we finally reached the fresh sea air. We stayed at Gensing Lodge, a beautiful house full of character that felt welcoming from the moment we arrived — spacious, thoughtfully put together, and perfect for families. Most of our time was spent on the beach, exploring the local streets, and simply enjoying the chance to slow down together, while the boys loved the freedom that comes with being by the sea. If you’re looking for an easy family-friendly coastal break near London, we’d wholeheartedly recommend both St Leonards and Gensing Lodge.
