Stone Cottage

Stone Cottage Stone Cottage was an old iron miner’s cottage built around 1880. The cottage offers stunning panoramic views over the countryside and fields.

Stone Cottage is situated between Staithes and Runswick Bay and is about 8 miles north of Whitby. It is our second home and is fitted and furnished accordingly. It has a microwave, TV, DVD, dishwasher, washer/dryer, kettle, toaster and electric blankets plus heaters in all rooms. There is a coal/log fire in the lounge. The main bedroom has a 5’ pine bed and sea view of the bay. The second room has

a 4’6” double bed and a view of fields. A starter pack is provided including milk, biscuits, tea, coffee, sugar, salt, pepper, HP sauce and ketchup. Bedding and kitchen towels are provided but we ask you to bring your own personal towels. There is private
parking for one car plus the adjacent lane. The cottage is an old iron miner’s cottage built around 1880 when iron ore was extracted and transported from the jetty at Port Mulgrave to feed the blast furnaces of Teesside and Tyneside. The original owners lived into their nineties. More recently the cottage has been a
holiday home and we have had some renovations carried out including a re-wire, new plumbing and roofing. Where possible the original features of the cottage have been retained. The kitchen has been completely refitted with new units and appliances. We have tried to furnish the cottage
appropriately and the table and dresser were made by a good friend using reclaimed pine from a school in Sunderland. The beamed ceiling and log fire add to the cosy
atmosphere in the lounge and we hope you enjoy the cottage as much as we do when we stay there.

Stone cottage stands near the coast with a view of the sea. A peaceful place to visit in 2020 with a new path down to the beach at last.

We are having a quite busy winter. We have had a lovely sunny January and the odd cold day. It has been great weather for walking and we have discovered the beach at Skinningrove and the cafe Kaskayne there.

We have had a really lovely autumn on the coast and it is going on.....Mild weather forecast and it is nearly mid November!

The walk continues! Last week we walked from Whitby up the steps and on to Robin Hoods Bay. Great walk and new territory for us both. Next plans are afoot to walk a circular walk to Ravenscar, the holiday resort which was never built.

Well, we are up and running again! We have done a couple of shorter sections of the Cleveland Way from Sandsend to Whitby and from Port Mulgrave to Runswick Bay. So we now need to fill in the stretch from Runswick via Kettleness to Sandsend. We just need sunshine, the wind behind us and the tide out!

Well a poorly knee has delayed recommencing the Cleveland Way but hoping to get back to walking a flat section next week!Hoho are there any flat bits?

03/02/2016

Well we have now reached Port Mulgrave! Our last walk was 10 miles and very muddy but we will crack on when conditions are more favourable.Looking forward to it.

We are now half way along the Cleveland Way! Only 52 miles to Filey. Arrived in Saltburn yesterday and the fish and chips were wonderful.

22/10/2015

Well, our walks on the Cleveland Way are going well. We have done a quarter of it! We have walked from Helmsley to Carlton Bank. Our longest day was 11 miles. We love it and only walk in fine weather and mostly downhill!

I fancy walking he whole of the Cleveland Way in easy stages. It goes right past the door of the cottage!

I actually walked some of the Cleveland Way yesterday. I can't believe how good the footpath was at Lordstones.
