Lovely part of the island 💕

This is a section of the Red Squirrel Trail, which is a 32 mile cycling route aimed at families.

https://www.isleofwightguru.co.uk/red-squirrel-trail-traffic-free-cycle-track.html

It's mostly old railway lines, which are traffic free and quite smooth but there are also sections that go through towns or get quite bumpy.

We did the whole route and have picked out our favourite bits for families who want to avoid cars altogether or who just want to do a short section with lunch. We also picked out the most scenic sections.

As well as our guide, there is an official website with maps.

Sandhard Beach in Yarmouth is not the largest beach on the Island but it's got nice views across to Lymington as well as barbeque stands and seating thanks to Yarmouth Harbour.

We like to park for free at Fort Victoria Country Park and then walk along the beach and coastal path. You can also park in Yarmouth town centre and walk along the road.

No cafes or toilets here but you can bring dogs and there are facilities at Fort Victoria.

As the UK is set to bask in another mini-heatwave this month, Brits are on the hunt for the best place for a staycation as summer approaches.

This short walk or cycle between Shanklin and Sandown is a nice easy one, and features in our guide to things to do in the two towns
https://www.isleofwightguru.co.uk/15-things-to-do-in-shanklin-and-sandown.html

For a 3 mile round trip, park at the pay and display car park at either Small Hope Car park in Shanklin or near to Sandown Pier.

Free parking on the seafront is unlikely but you can sometimes find free spaces on the road approaching Shanklin seafront (Hope Road). We sometimes park up on the cliffs overlooking Shanklin where there is sometimes free parking. You can also start the walk halfway at Lake and walk down the slope. Parking at Sandown or Shanklin railway station is another option as it's a lot cheaper than the council car parks.

There are lots of options for lunch en route and at both ends of the walk, including The Salix - Beach Cafe The Steamer Inn

Here's our guide to cafes and pubs with a view
https://www.isleofwightguru.co.uk/isle-of-wight-beach-cafes.html

The route is good for wheelchairs and pushchairs. There are no railings for a lot of the route though.
