Ever wandered through a secret garden… and found tea and cake at the end? 🍰🌿On the Isle of Wight, you can! Thanks to our unique microclimate and generous garden owners.

Open Gardens are one of the Island’s most hidden gems, where you’ll find plants that thrive like they’re on the Med. From towering trees to exotic blooms, our gardens are a real treat for nature lovers.

We have year-round treasures like Ventnor Botanic Garden, Osborne House, Farringford and Mottistone, but don’t miss the others, where locals open up their usually private gardens for special days each year. Think winding cottage paths, manor house borders, homemade cakes, and a warm Island welcome — often all in aid of charity.

Some are part of the National Garden Scheme, such as Morton Manor, Nunwell House, Dove Cottage and Barton Manor, others are village-wide events like Bonchurch (with links to Charles Dickens) and Freshwater Bay, once home to Tennyson.

Love exploring gardens off the beaten path? 💚 Save this post so you don’t miss future Open Garden events — and if you’ve visited one, let us know your favourite in the comments! 🌸

Rescued Brown Bears Benji and Balu now on the Isle of Wight Ferry, last leg of their momentous journey from Azerbaijan to their forever home in Yaverland, Sandown.

They're nearly here... Benji and Balu are on the ferry! 🐻🧡

✈️🚚 After driving through the night with from Glasgow Prestwick Airport with Ventura Wildlife Services, Benji and Balu made it safely to the Wightlink Isle of Wight Ferries terminal in Portsmouth earlier this morning.

⛴️🌊 Now, the bears will travel across the Solent to Fishbourne on board Victoria of Wight, before making the short and final drive to our Sanctuary in Sandown!

🐻❗ We can't wait to introduce you to Benji and Balu, but please note that the bears may not be visible to our visitors while they are settling in. After their long journey, we want to give them the time, space, and privacy they need to get comfortable in their surroundings before they venture out into their outside habitat!
