Today we have launched a petition calling on Dover District Council to review its parking restrictions and charges across the district.

Residents, visitors and businesses have raised serious concerns about the current parking strategy, including the new three-hour maximum stay in some car parks, such as Guildhall Car Park in Sandwich.

Our towns need parking policies that support local businesses, encourage visitors to stay longer and help our high streets thrive, not restrictions that risk driving people away.

This matters across the whole district, including Sandwich, Deal, Dover and our surrounding communities.

Grants available!

Local community groups across Dover District can now apply for funding through Dover District Council’s Community Grants Scheme, which opens today.

A total of £50,000 is available in this summer funding round, with grants of between £100 and £2,500 available for projects that bring a clear benefit to local residents.

The deadline for applications is 12 noon on Tuesday 26 May 2026.

These grants can be a really useful source of support for local charities, voluntary groups, clubs and community organisations delivering positive work in our towns and villages. A further £50,000 is also expected to be made available in a winter funding round later in the year.

Well… the mayo is out of the jar now 👀🥪

Hellmann's is bringing its version of the original sandwich to Sandwich this Thursday, 2 April at The Crispin Inn - Sandwich.

The recipe is inspired by 18th century ingredients and includes Kentish cob, period-style roast beef, plum pudding and, of course, a generous layer of mayo!

The first 150 visitors from 12pm will get one free, and after that it will stay on the menu at £16.

Whatever you make of it, it is certainly a talking point and another reminder that Sandwich has a story and heritage that attracts attention far beyond our town.

Who remembers when Walkers descended on the town?!
