Join us for our next safari!

As the nights begin to close in, and the weather turns, finding Rockpool opportunities gets harder. So we are very pleased to be able to run a Safari later this month!

We've had a few lovely sessions this August with tourists and locals coming along to see what lies beneath the waves!

Pic 1 - This Pawsonia saxicola, also known as the Sea Gherkin, was a new find for us.

Pic 2 and 3 - other highlights have been some rather large Black Squat Lobsters and masses of Jorunna tomentosa, a sea lemon like Nudibranch that can get bigger than a golf ball.

September dates will be posted soon, and keep an eye out for a session using UV torches to find out what is glowing in the Rockpools at night!

πŸ¦€ July rockpooling🐚
We've had a couple of lovely sessions this month - a Sunday morning session in Lerwick (what a way to start the day!) and a sunny Tuesday evening at Sandsayre.
Lots of delightful creatures were found on each safari - but we were having so much fun we barely took any photos πŸ™ˆ
There's still space on our August safaris and we're thinking about a trialling a night time event with UV torches in September if the tides line up πŸ”¦

Thankfully the rain stopped and the sun came out for this evenings rockpool safari 🌞
What a delightful group - thanks for coming out with us 😊
We were also treated to bonus views of a nursery pod of Risso's dolphins just as we were about to go through the trays 🐬
Our next safari is in Thursday and there some spaces left - link in our bio

Squat Lobsters!

These fascinating crustaceans can be elusive and fast, so it's always a treat when we get to watch and even record them like this.

The Spiny Squat Lobster at the end is a Rockpool rarity for us. The juvenile's are very striking!

European Cowrie - Trivia monacha

The Shetland name for the shells is Groatie Buckie and we just love that. Some beaches up here are sprinkled with them, so make sure you look for them on your next beach walk. We prefer to find the live animal though.

The sea snails are just amazing and we are very lucky to find them on many of our Safaris. Watching them emerge from their shells and slide along hunting for a tasty sea sq**rt is a real highlight.
