Fledgling season is underway... 🖤

At this time of year, young Manx Shearwaters are leaving their burrows on Pembrokeshire's offshore islands and beginning their incredible migration across the Atlantic towards South America.
Some can become disorientated by artificial lights after dark and end up grounded on the mainland. Once on land, they struggle to take off again.
They're not necessarily injured — they may simply be stranded and need a little help getting back on their way.
We've shared this post from Manx Shearwater Rescue with everything you need to know if you come across one, including their 24/7 rescue hotline.

📢 PLEASE HELP! Please do help us spread the word about how to report a stranded Manx Shearwater in Pembrokeshire or neighbouring areas using our hotline. Share this post with you contacts now and help us save as many stranded Manxies as possible this season.

☎️ Our volunteer operated hotline is now live 24/7 although will go to answerphone during the night and messages will be picked up and replied to in the morning.

🦆 Please note that we can only rescue and release Manx Shearwaters and not other seabirds or wildlife. If you find other injured seabirds please contact the RSPCA or local wildlife rescue centres.

If you love your food and you love the coast, this could be a pretty good weekend to visit Saundersfoot.

The Street Food Circus is back in the village this weekend as part of the Saundersfoot Harbour Feastival, running from Friday 4th to Sunday 6th September.

We're offering something a little different this weekend and we've opened up a couple of two-night stays for Saturday and Sunday.

So... good food, the Pembrokeshire coast and a couple of nights away? Not a bad combination. 😉

Summer 2026… it came, it went, and it was a blast.

The park has been buzzing, the weather certainly didn't disappoint, and we've loved seeing Swallow Tree full of life over the last few months.

From beach days and boat trips to plenty of good times along the way — it's been a brilliant summer.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us. We hope you had as much fun as we did.

Welcome to the 'ber' months...
September is here — the month where autumn is getting ready to move in, but summer isn't quite ready to let go.
The evenings are getting shorter, the landscape is beginning to shift and the coast is moving into a completely different part of its wildlife calendar.
There's plenty to look forward to over the next few months — and we're only just getting started.

So, what makes the Eurasian Wryneck such an exciting sighting?

Wrynecks are scarce passage migrants in the UK, usually only seen during spring and autumn migration. They're not resident here, so sightings can be few and far between.

They're small — roughly sparrow-sized — and their beautifully mottled plumage gives them remarkably good camouflage. They also spend much of their time feeding on the ground, rather than behaving like the tree-climbing woodpeckers we might expect.

They're not a bird you're likely to come across very often, which made this unexpected visitor all the more exciting.

A rare visitor to Swallow Tree... 🐦
A Euroasian Wryneck decided to spend a few hours exploring Swallow Tree this afternoon! To our knowledge, the first recorded here and life long bird lover John Hancock’s first ever sighting of this species. ☺️

A very small kind of woodpecker, they get their names from being able to turn their heads almost 180 degrees!

The close proximity of a range of coastal, woodland and farmland habitats means we can see a huge range of species in the area around the park, with the chance of spotting a rare feathered ‘stranger’ adding an extra element to Autumn and Winter walks.

Apologies for the video quality, but capturing through the lens of a binoculars is somewhat challenging.

September — when summer slows down.

September can feel a bit like summer, without all the summer rush.

The sea has had all summer to warm up, the days are still long, and there's plenty happening around the coast — from sea swimming and watersports to the arrival of grey seal pups and autumn wildlife.

The landscape is still largely green and summery too. It's that lovely in-between point where summer hasn't quite disappeared, but things have started to slow down.

September in Pembrokeshire: all the good bits of summer, with a little less hustle and bustle. 💚
