The Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway, affectionately known as La’al Ratty offers a beautifully nostalgic journey through the Eskdale valley, with sweeping fell views and a wonderfully relaxed pace.

It’s an experience we’ve enjoyed many times as a family over the years, and it remains one of our favourite ways to explore this quieter corner of the Lake District.

Just a short drive from The Old Vicarage Irton, it’s perfect for multi-generational stays, slower mornings and memory-making afternoons.

As the weather continues to be nice remember to be 🏔️

- Park responsibly- not blocking roads, gates or access points.
- Keep dogs on leads near livestock.
- Clean up your litter and dog poo- dispose of it responsibly or take it home.
- Don't light fires.
- Be prepared when climbing the mountains- we often experience all four seasons in one day.
- Don't get out of your depth- the water may look inviting but it is still very cold.
