Woodlands is a step back in time to long summers of croquet on the lawn and champagne cocktails on the terrace before supper and a glass of brandy by the fire before retiring for the day. Built in 1905 as a gentlemen’s country residence the house sits at the end of a quiet road ten minutes walk from picturesque Giggleswick village. Beyond the gates the Yorkshire Dales National Park stretches for m

iles. The enchanting Lord’s Wood borders the house to the west and there are spectacular views from the terrace over the Ribble Valley to the east. A short walk takes you to the pretty market town of Settle, with shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs, as well as a theatre and swimming pool. Woodlands is a large house, comfortably sleeping up to nineteen guests in ten bedrooms, all beautifully restored and furnished in simple early twentieth century style. Stay at Woodlands midweek for only £750 – only £10 per person per night!

After a weekend that’d have had Noah reaching for his hammer, the sun’s finally shown its face over Giggleswick ☀️ Woodlands House has been sat here since the 1800s, taking this weather in its stride. The garden’s still soggy, and there’s that fresh post-rain smell only the Dales can create. Brew in hand, not a bad start to the week, all things considered. 🫖

🚂 The Settle to Carlisle railway is more than just a scenic route, it’s a triumph of Victorian engineering. Completed in 1876, this 73 mile line was one of the last great mainline railways to be built in Britain, carving its way through the rugged Yorkshire Dales and Cumbrian Fells.

With 20 viaducts, 14 tunnels, and countless stories of grit and determination from the navvies who built it, the line is a lasting symbol of ambition and resilience. It was nearly lost to closure in the 1980s, but thanks to public outcry and preservation efforts, it remains open and as beautiful as ever.

You can still watch the trains glide by just minutes from , a living link to the past.

Just a short drive from Woodlands House lies one of the Yorkshire Dales’ most iconic sights, Pen-y-Ghent.

Rising to 694 metres, it’s the smallest of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, but easily one of the most dramatic. Its name is thought to come from the ancient Cumbric language, meaning ‘Hill of the Winds’ or ‘Hill on the Border’ a fitting title for a summit that has watched over these landscapes for centuries.

Many of our guests head out to walk the circular route from Horton-in-Ribblesdale, returning with windswept smiles and tired feet. Others prefer to admire it from a distance, perhaps with a flask in hand and a quiet spot in the garden.

Wherever you see it from, Pen-y-Ghent never fails to impress – and after a day on the fells, there’s nothing better than returning to the calm and comfort of Woodlands House.
