Rebecca Waterfield Equine Sports Massage Therapy

Having owned, ridden and competed from a young age and worked professionally with everything from much-loved family ponies to international competition horses, I understand the importance of having a healthy, happy horse who is able to perform at their very best, whatever their discipline. I have worked with many horses recovering from injury or with life long conditions which has not only given me valuable experience but also fuelled my interest in equine rehabilitation and the benefits of complementary therapies. To further my knowledge and fulfil a passion to make a positive difference to the horses I work with, I completed a diploma in Equine Sports Massage at The College of Animal Therapies, qualifying in 2016. Equine Sports Massage uses professional sports massage techniques, manipulating soft tissue to loosen muscles and identify areas of stress or weakness in the musculoskeletal system. This hands-on, holistic approach provides many benefits to the whole body, meaning any horse can benefit from ESM treatment, from happy hacker or top athlete. ESM Benefits include:

~Improved range of movement, coordination and balance
~Improved circulation and lymph flow
~Improved stamina
~Improved mental well-being
~Releases muscular tension
~Reduced chance of injury
~Aids recovery from illness or injury

Massage can be incorporated into a rehabilitation program, including those on box rest; used before and after competition and as a general maintenance to help keep you horse supple and relaxed. PLEASE NOTE:
Equine Sports Massage is not a substitute for veterinary attention. All work carried out is in accordance with the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966, which states that veterinary consent must be approved before working on any animal. Veterinary consent forms are available from me and can be emailed to you. Initial Consultation:
Approx 1.5-2 hrs to include:

~Discussing the horses' history and any current problems or concerns
~Gait and conformation analysis
~Observe the horse lunged or ridden if necessary
~A full massage treatment with additional appropriate therapies eg. MFR

A copy of the assessment can be made available for your own records. I may also leave you with appropriate stretches and exercises to practice between treatment sessions. Follow up Treatments:
Approx 1-1.5 hrs

Full body massage and appropriate therapies specifically tailored to the individual horse, focusing on any problem areas. IAAT Registered. Fully Qualified & Insured. If you have any questions or to book an appointment please contact Rebecca. Tel: 07725 465479

This is the wonderful Fletcher!
A 26yr old retiree who had his first session with me this week.
Fletcher has various health issues including cushings, no teeth, melanomas, historic neck and tail fractures and arthritis. This means he has extensive compensatory patterns throughout his body resulting in various areas of tension and reduced mobility.
He is carefully managed by his owner to allow him a peaceful retirement but some gentle massage treatment will be of real benefit to Fletcher.

After fully assessing him, I gently began working through areas to start to ‘unpick’ those restrictions and restore some balance back to his body and nervous system. This is a gradual process; there are no ‘quick fixes’ and the aim is purely to make him as comfortable as possible.

It was a delight to see him able to even attempt these gentle stretches at the end of the session, something which before he would have found very difficult. He will have a couple more treatments over the coming weeks to give him a good base to start from and then will join a maintenance plan to keep him ticking along over the winter months.

What a superstar he is!

A lovely soft release from Pink! There was plenty more of this but filming whilst working is not my forte 🤪
It’s been a tough summer for many, with extreme heat and rock hard ground really having an effect on the musculoskeletal system.
Lots of horses I’ve treated have been jarred up and suffering with stiffness, especially our older ladies and gents like Pink here.
Autumn is just around the corner and now is a great time to book a treatment and get them back on track.
DM me for availability in your area!
