Postcards from Kerala, India 🐅 🇮🇳

Making this trip to Southern India for one of my regulars was such a highlight!

Kerala is a lesser-known yet tropical gem, home to the Malabar Coast boasting 600km of Arabian Sea shoreline 🏝️

It’s also famous for its palm-lined beaches, winding canals, lush mountains filled with tea, coffee, and spice plantations, and it hosts a fantastic array of wildlife.

With cruise travel on the rise, it’s amazing to see new rules protecting our precious wildlife 🐻‍❄️

Over 80% of global travellers now value sustainable tourism, and rightly so!

As someone who loves adventure and wildlife, I’m always on the lookout for unforgettable, eco-friendly experiences.

Take our beloved polar bears in Norway, for example. New environmental regulations took effect on 1 January 2025 in Svalbard 🇳🇴

Here’s what you need to know:

🛳️ Access: Cruise ships with over 200 passengers are now prohibited from entering Svalbard’s seven national parks and 21 nature reserves.

⚓️ Distance: From 1 March to 30 June, ships and Zodiacs must keep at least 500 meters away from polar bears; from 1 July to 28 February, that distance drops to 300 meters.

⌚️ Speed: Boats must slow to a maximum of 5 knots and maintain a 500-meter distance when passing bird colonies on sea cliffs from 1 April to 31 August.

Expedition cruise operators promise these measures won’t diminish the experience, they’re set to enhance it which is great for the future of protected species and eco tourism practices.
