A bonus Sunday goat picture. This gang love “stripping the willow”….Kevin has made them a walkway using old scaffolding planks between the two houses. Clemmie is less keen but Bingo, Stan & Ollie all seem to love it.

We don’t get many days off here at Mill Cross Retreats (not that we’re complaining!)….there’s always so much to do inside & out.

But when we do, we love a really long walk and this one that starts at Stokengsm, goes to Beesands, along to Slapton, round the Ley nature reserve and then back to Stokenham along lanes and across fields is magical.

I love this picture of the lesser spotted Kevin, who in true Kevin style, stopped to admire this lovely chestnut gate at the end of the nature reserve.

☕🍓 Devon Cream Tea – The Ultimate Treat! 🍓☕

Yes, I know we can't tell our partners that actually (ssshhhh) our favourite is the D.O.G. but we all know the truth- that a holiday without Baxter/Bella/Arlo/Lola isn't really the break we want!

Luckily, here at MCR we welcome a well behaved doggie or two to The Oystercatcher so you can play on the beach, romp on Dartmoor or enjoy a pint or two in the pub with your bestie by your side. Then he/she can snuggle down by the woodburner while you hop in the woodfired hot tub.... bliss.

There's a fantastic walk that's only about 10 minutes from us Mill Cross Retreats on the South side of Dartmoor, near Bittaford, starting at the East side of The Redlake Trading Estate (drive up and under the railway bridge and park at the top- Walk West & follow the path) called the Puffing Billy.

The old single gauge railway was used to transport workers to Red Lake to mine china clay. It makes a great, reasonably level all ability walk which I enjoyed with my regular walking buddy & great friend, Kass & Juno's bestie, Arlo.

The views are incredible right down to the coast & I was delighted to see Herdwick sheep (native to Kevin's home in the Lake District) along with Dartmoor sheep.

The standing stones are impressive & worth a visit. As it's a point to point walk, you can walk up to 7 hours by going each way, through if you just wanted an hour or two stroll, you'd equally well be rewarded with the moor and great views to the coast.

Who are we? We’re Kevin & Emma Ireland & we live at & manage Mill Cross Retreats.

Before we established Mill Cross Retreats, Kevin was an oak framed carpenter who had studied fine art & brings a brilliant eye for creative design to our place) & Emma worked in the charity sector as well as setting up her catering business, specialising in woodfired food.

We’ve lived here for nearly 7 years & we’re passionate about;

* giving our guests, visitors, friends & family a lovely, extra special place to visit-to step out of busy lives & have some space to relax & recharge
* the environment-we steward our 6 acres with care, using eco-conscious practices
* shopping & supporting local-there are so many wonderful independent businesses around us, so we’re very lucky
* all things woodfired-from our wonderful Gozney pizza oven to our woodfired hot tubs-we source our wood locally from Dartmoor
* going the extra mile to be generous hosts who care more & do more for you

When we’re not working, we love to walk with Juno our spaniel on Dartmoor or on the coast, cook & eat with friends or hang out with our 6 children, their partners and our 8 beautiful grandchildren.

We love our life here at Mill Cross Retreats & are happy to share it with you.
