In this video, the Principal of South Shields Marine School – the oldest marine school in the world – shares how our proud maritime history is helping to shape a brand new, future-focused campus in the heart of the town.

But this isn’t just about the Marine School — this £95 million project is for everyone at South Tyneside College 💙

🌟 Staff Spotlight: Hayley Cartagena 🌟
We’re sending a massive shoutout to Hayley, our incredible Work Placement Officer, who’s been recognised at our first ever EDIB Awards with the Staff Support for Inclusion Award 👏🎉

Hayley has worked tirelessly to make our college community more compassionate, inclusive, and empowering — especially for our ESOL learners and students from underrepresented groups.

Through creative events, meaningful initiatives, and inclusive work experience opportunities, she’s gone above and beyond to make sure every learner feels seen, valued, and supported 💛

Her work is the definition of inclusion in action — and we’re so proud to have her as part of the South Tyneside College team.
