If you are planning to apply to study in the UK, it is highly recommended that you start the process at least six months in advance. Please note that the fast visa decisions of the past—within 7 to 14 days—are no longer the norm. Currently, many applicants are waiting three to four months or longer without receiving a decision.
One major reason for this delay is that popular study destinations such as Canada, Australia, and the USA have significantly tightened their visa policies. As a result, the UK has become a primary target for students from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, China, and many African countries. In response to the increased demand, UK institutions have raised tuition fees and the government has suspended dependent visas.
Despite these challenges, the UK’s economic outlook remains relatively strong, especially compared to several European countries. With the Labour Party currently in power, there is cautious optimism that positive policy changes for international students may be introduced in the near future.
Given the high level of uncertainty surrounding student visas in many European countries, it would be more practical and financially sensible to focus on the UK and take the IELTS as early as possible.
It’s also important to understand that this global visa situation is likely to remain challenging for the next three to four years. Meanwhile, the value of the dollar, euro, and pound continues to rise. Previously, students could study abroad with BDT 1.2 to 1.3 million, but now even BDT 2 to 2.2 million may not be enough.
Time is critical. Make informed decisions without delay, and act while opportunities are still within reach.
