Dorset Food Festival 2018!

If you love seafood, join Renne for a totally immersive experience at the 11th Dorset Seafood Festival in July 2018!

Sail into the heart of the festival as we tie-up alongside in Weymouth Harbour.

For two days the many stalls sell freshly prepared crab, lobster, oysters, mussels, prawns and more…..Our favourites this year were the Thai Seabass Burgers washed down with a glass of the festival sponsors Pommery champagne!

The festival also has plenty of live music throughout both days and seafood cookery demonstrations by well-known chefs.

If you need a rest, retire to your comfortable private en-suite cabin on Renne.

If you fancy making the 2018 festival your oyster, contact us to discuss pickup points, cabin availability and tariff.

Come Wine Tasting….or, maybe Gin Tasting !

We are pleased to be able to offer you a combined sailing and wine tasting adventure in conjunction with Wine Therapy, an independent boutique wine shop situated in the heart of Cowes, Isle of Wight.
Wine Therapy proprietors, Terence & Nichola, have selected an exciting and diverse range of wines to suit all tastes.

“To be honest, we've always just gone with our hearts and of course our palates; it has to begin with personal preferences, if you're going to sell a wine, you'd better be passionate about it!”

Enjoy a sail followed by lunch on board Renne or at one of the numerous pubs or restaurants in the heart of the bustling seafaring town of Cowes.

Wine Therapy is situated on Cowes High Street, a very short stroll from the marina. Enjoy a tasting session from a possible 32 wines/spirits available in their Enomatic sampling machines. These contain a diverse selection from all over the world and Terence or Nichola will be on hand to help guide and encourage you to try something a bit different. There is also a lovely courtyard garden available to use, weather permitting, through the spring and summer and Wine Therapy can arrange platters of food to accompany your tasting.

After your wine tasting experience we will return to Renne and enjoy a leisurely sail back to her mooring. Or…..head out to sea and continue your adventure if you have requested an overnight stay.
Terence and Nichola can provide a delivery service if you can’t resist purchasing some bottles to take away but don’t want to carry them home.
You don’t like wine??? …..don’t worry Wine Therapy also have an excellent range of unusual Premium Gins to try too!

Early June saw the wind speed and direction just perfect for a Channel crossing to France.

Leaving Hamble on a Thursday afternoon we sailed to Yarmouth where we set the scene for the forthcoming French trip with home made Confit du Canard with Puy Lentils and French wine for dinner. We were joined by Richard Reader, a skipper for the Rona Trust, RYA Yacht-Master tutor and as we found, excellent company with a wealth of seafaring tales to tell along the way!

On Friday morning the tides were with us on the way out to The Needles and the sun was bright as we passed the Fairway Buoy on our Port side as we turned South towards the Channel Islands.

We had a fabulous crossing using the lovely Code Zero sail and arrived at Braye Harbour, Alderney in the early evening picking up a buoy in the trots near the Harbour Wall.

After a hot shower we all jumped into the water taxi for a short hop to the nearby slipway. Richard led the way to The Divers, a friendly ‘locals’ pub where we were made very welcome. Later in The Braye Harbour Hotel we enjoyed an excellent dinner before returning to Renne for a good nights sleep in the sheltered harbour.

Slipping our mooring on Saturday we made our way around to Cherbourg in plenty of time for lunch in the marina and some sight-seeing in the afternoon.

Cherbourg is blessed with one of the nicest yacht clubs we have visited. Perfect for a glass of wine on the rooftop terrace overlooking the busy marina and the ‘Titanic’ museum housed in what was the departure hall for passengers joining the doomed ship.

Sunday saw us heading for Renne’s home in Hamble but the adventure wasn’t quite over…. half way across the Channel we were approached by a large French Customs boat and questioned at length over the radio while they verified our recent movements and who was on board before waving us on our way. They were very friendly and I suppose it is just a sign of the times!

Looking at the weather forecast last week David noticed the North Westerlies due over the weekend & decided it was a perfect opportunity to get the Spinnaker out and head for Weymouth.

We left the Hamble River on Thursday afternoon and sailed beneath dramatic skies to Yarmouth where we spent a lively evening enjoying the beginning of the Old Gaffers Festival before setting off for Weymouth on the Dorset coastline on the 7am tide.

The spinnaker was soon put up and Renne glided along comfortably at around 10 knots through The Needles and out across Christchurch Bay.

Unfortunately the wind steadily decreased and we eventually had to put away the sails and motor into Weymouth.

There was an excellent Folk Music Festival along the Quayside with plenty of live music and troops of Morris Dancers performing all through the day on Saturday.

We were up early to catch the 5am tide on Sunday morning. The wind had not re-appeared so we motored back to Hamble in the bright sunshine and on the flattest sea I have ever seen!

….so, not the hardest sail but a really great weekend!

We entered Renne into The Royal Escape Race that took place on Friday 27th May 2016.

The race starts off Brighton Pier and crosses the English Channel to Fecamp on the Normandy coast commemorating the occasion when King Charles II fled across the Channel to escape Cromwell’s Parliamentarians in 1651.

A rainstorm on the start line did nothing to dampen spirits on Renne and we eagerly crossed the line at 7.30am quickly reaching 10 knots and scooting out from under the rain clouds!

We enjoyed a thrilling crossing in bright sunshine and arrived in Fecamp around 4pm more than ready for some good French wine and a seafood platter at a restaurant on the harbor wall.

We spent a leisurely Saturday exploring the delightful town and market and following a lively on-board dinner party and a good night’s sleep we sailed back to the UK on Sunday.

Thanks to Tim, Meg, Mike and Allie for being a first class and very entertaining crew!

Was sent up the 79ft mast to check out all the technical kit at the weekend….it wasn't all bad though. The views over Yarmouth Harbour were great and I couldn't hear the skipper going on (or rather offering advice)! I got some good photos of Renne from above too…..

Skipper David thought the time had come to take Renne 'Round the Island'….We were all duly turned out of our cabins at unholy o'clock and set off West towards the iconic Needles Rocks.
It was a great sail and definitely the calmest off St Catherine's Point we had ever experienced.
See our photos which show the Needles looking atmospheric around 8am and later David helming Renne around Princessa off Bembridge Ledge before turning for home in the Hamble River.
Thanks to all staff in the Victory Inn, Hamble for the lovely dinner that evening!
If you would like to charter Renne for your own 'Round the Island' experience please email me on [email protected]
