For our family summer holiday this year, we have decided to go Interrailing around Europe 🇪🇺 🚉

Our first stop was Cologne, which is a beautiful city situated on the Rhine River.

As you leave the station, you are greeted with the stunning Cologne Cathedral.

We walked over the bridge, which we have renamed Lovers Lock Bridge, so many times in the two nights we were there.

We meandered around Alter Markt (The Old Town). We paid a visit inside Cologne Cathedral and lit a candle for those dear to us that are not here anymore.

We had breakfast and dinner over looking the Rhine. It had such an amazing atmosphere on a Friday evening.

We tried some yummy German pastries and a locally brewed b**r - beautiful!

Next stop, Luxembourg 🇱🇺

☀️🚄 Wow, what a summer it has been! 🚄☀️

This year for our family summer holiday, we decided to go Interrailing through Europe.

Back in the Spring, we bought our 1st Class Interrail passes in their spring sale.

We used their spring sale discounts to pay for our 1st Class upgrade!

The amazing thing about Interrail is that it includes your UK rail jounreys, from a local station.

It also includes, not that we used them this time, European ferries and buses.

We spent many hours/days/weeks working out our route, and then tweaking it until we were happy with it.

Our final route from the UK, was Cologne 🇩🇪, Luxembourg 🇱🇺, Freiburg 🇩🇪, Chur 🇨🇭, Lake Garda 🇮🇹, Strasbourg 🇫🇷 before heading back to the UK.

I was able to prebook the majority of the seat reservations before we left the UK.

At St Pancras, they were very swift and from checking in, going through security and passport control x 2, it took less than 20 minutes for four people.

The only issue we encountered on our first day was due to engineering works, our train that was due to depart from Brussels Midi to Cologne was now departing from another station, 8 minutes away by train.

Very easy to sort with our Interrail Passes as all your journeys have to be recorded on the app. It was just a case of adding a new journey to our travel pass for the day and off we went to the new station. All our seat reservations were the same as we had previously booked, only the station had changed.

I will do separate posts for each destination as the all deserve the recognition.
