Mt Etna Eruption - Travel Update ✈

Mount Etna Eruption – Operational & Travel Update ✈️

Early Monday morning (02/06), Mount Etna on the east coast of Sicily experienced intensified Strombolian volcanic activity, prompting a temporary elevation of the Aviation Colour Code from Orange to Red. A volcanic ash plume reached approximately 5.5 km (3.4 miles) in height and drifted southwest.

By 08:40 local time (06:40 GMT), the eruption had subsided, and the alert level was lowered back to Orange. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.

No new travel advisories have been issued by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). The FCDO advises all travellers to follow guidance from local authorities in the event of volcanic activity.

✅ Catania-Fontanarossa (CTA) – Open, minor delays reported
✅ Palermo-Falcone Borsellino (PMO) – Operating normally
✅ Trapani-Birgi (TPS) – Operating normally
