This month, we turn the spotlight onto The Chester Hotel in Aberdeen, a small, privately owned hotel, located in the fashionable West End of the City. This stylish hotel is being continuously enhanced combining many of the original features dating back to the 1800s with modern décor bursting with life. We particularly love their cosy-cool Gallery Bar and the Garden Room which can only be described as a modern day palm court.
The Chester is an excellent base for playing some of the Aberdeenshire courses such as Royal Aberdeen, Trump International and Cruden Bay and is only a 15 minutes drive from Aberdeen Airport, making a visit here the perfect option for a short break or a good starting/ ending location for a larger itinerary!

Drumgolf, St Andrews – Life beyond lockdown

The other day I played the Old Course with my cousin and finished the round in 2 Hours and 29 minutes ! With the current rules restricting tee times to 2 Golfers with 12 minute intervals this has been one of the few positives to come out of the pandemic. Despite the hugely negative economic impact of the lockdown in Scotland, the team at Drumgolf remain positive for the future. We are thankful for the patience displayed by our 2020 customers, 85% of which have agreed to carry over their bookings to the 2021 season.

With this is mind I would strongly encourage anyone considering a trip to golf in Scotland, Ireland or England next year to start planning as soon as possible. There has been a huge transferral of bookings from this year to 2021 resulting in hotels (particularly in St Andrews) and Championship courses everywhere already being very limited for availability in certain months next year.

There is much to look forward to in the 2021 season. The fantastic new links at Dumbarnie will be fully operational & is less than 30 minutes drive from St Andrews. This commands a breath taking stretch of Fife’s coastline and has at least 9 holes where there is an element of risk and reward with regards to which route you take to the green. There is a little doubt that Dumbarnie is going to be an impressive addition to our links golf selection .

There is also the much anticipated Open Championship at Royal St Georges postponed from this year to July 2021. Drumgolf is an Authorised ticket provider for the event and has an excellent range of packages combining access to the Championship with staying at the historic town of Canterbury a short drive away. We are also already attracting phenomenal attention for the 150th Open Championship at St Andrews taking place in July 2022. This may feel a long way off but it is not unrealistic to assume that by the end of the year accommodation within a decent distance of the town will be sold out so once again planning ahead is to be encouraged.

With a gradual return to normal life in Scotland and almost no new cases of the virus to report in the country I certainly see better days ahead. I would like to wish all our customers the very best as you navigate your way through these extraordinary times and hope to see you back in Scotland in the not too distant future.

As an Authorised Provider for The Open 2021 at Royal St Georges and The Open 2022 in St Andrews we are overwhelmed by your support. For the first time since 1945 the R&A has taken the decision to cancel the championship set for Royal St Georges in July this year. The new dates will be as follows:

The 149th Open will be played at Royal St Georges 11-18 July 2021
The 150th Open will be played at St Andrews 10-17 July 2022

We are aware that many customers who have already booked with us to attend the Open at either Royal St Georges or St Andrews will be anxious to receive updates. We will be in touch as soon as possible having established the way forward with the R&A and our partner hotels.
